I have not seen a thread on this, so here I go. Do you think they should try and balance the game around being sport worthy? The idea was tossed around earlier, but it doesn't look likely. I haven't seen anybody say the devs should try and make it an esport yet. Like fireeye mentioned earlier (and another dev confirmed would not happen much earlier.), trying to balance a game constantly usually is a mess. As long as the individual skill ceiling is high I am fine with whatever they do.

  2. Honestly, No.

I wouldn't mind a standalone game like they did with the WAR but no you should never try to balance a game on this scale around something on a much smaller scale like e-sports matches.

There have been a couple of people saying there should be an esport side. But no, just no. At least not at launch, there is too much else to focus on. If, and I say *IF* it's decided to implement something later, then the main gameplay and balance should be completely separate from whatever arena-type deal is set up for that.

The focus should be entirely on the campaign. If you want to compete against other teams in the arena then frankly the rewards should be minimal or even nonexistant (other than bragging rights, of course!) As Tyryt said, the game is going to be balanced around large-scale warfare, and if people hop onto a 3v3 scene and whine and moan that 'x class is OP y class is OP' then any changes resulting from that could easily hurt the balance in the wider game.

If there's anything that PS2 proved, it's that E-sports do not work on the MMO scale. MMO's simply lack that individual player impact that drives commentary. Every individual player is too insignificant for a commentator to really commentate their skill.
Imaging a football game, but with a couple hundred players on either side. Now imagine John Madden trying to commentate that. That's what MMO E-sports are like.
Just make a fun game. MLG isn't even worth the time.
  7. EPenis contests for adolescents. Personnaly no. But if there is a fanbase for it... Well why the hell not. As long as it doesn't effect the regular playerbase. (Aka emptyzones because of certain areas being used for Esports BS.)

This is going to be a minimally if at all balanced game. Hence. No Esport.

HOWEVER. I would love to see some epic battles unfold in some sort of spectator mode though. But then I guess I would want to get in there and fight.

I wouldn't mind it if the game was balanced enough to be E-sport worthy.
Basically that tells me the devs care about the game and the players experience. Whats the alternative to balancing it with an E-Sport mentality? Not being balanced?
I don't want a certain race/class/weapon combination to just dominate the game forever, and force me to pretend to be Okay with it. Especially if it's a space marine class.

I mean, the game is literally years away, but I can already hear it; "Space marines are strong in the lore, of course they should be able to beat an Ork Nob in melee and a Dark Reaper in a gunfight" they'll say, as they stomp with their overpowered class. Then nobody wants to play the weaker races/classes/use the weaker weapons, because why would they.

Esports is cancer, its not about skill but advertisements; so negative.
