So I think it's wrong to believe making games is out of your reach. Or that you are incapable of helping in a cause you believe in. If you're still here, I believe you either thrive on suffering or truly believe in the cause... Perhaps even both.

For most of you, I'm going to assume you know virtually nothing about game design apart from a handful of terms.

I would recommend you begin here:

Start learning about how to make your own games from blueprints. There's a lot to know, take your time. Practice every day, five days a week if you can. Take on small, even trivial projects unless you are prepared to sink hundreds of hours into it. A lot of bigger projects are a combination of a lot of smaller ones. And it's important to know a project is divided up into different specialities. There's the nuts and bolts that dictate the game in the form of Blueprints and C++ Coding. It's far easier to just learn how to do Blueprints and then learn C++ once you know how the pieces fit together. So don't be intimidated if you don't know code at all, just begin with the video above, and keep building, keep going, keep fixing, keep researching, perservere and you will be rewarded with your own game.

Unreal Engine 4 also has quite a bit of free resources in their forums, documentation, and answer hub.

Their marketplace has a lot of options and I would recommend using the Infinity Blade assets until you can make/buy your own - which are all free. You'll probably start to notice quite a few similarities between certain products in the marketplace and mechanics in EC itself. I found it useful to purchase one to accelerate my own project. It's a common practice and by doing so I actually got a chance to reverse engineer some things, which is also common practice, as is sharing your knowledge and collaborating with teams when possible.

I started my project in September 2017, after almost 0 experience with game design, totally 0 experience with Unreal 4. My guild knows I've been hard at work this whole time. I'm not quite ready to show the public what I've been doing - yet, (SoonTM.. right?) - My goal is before March 1st, but it's probably in bad taste to showcase an unrelated project here on the forums for another game without permission so we'll have to talk it over or something. However, I encourage all of you to get busy with your own projects, learn, and in time we come together and see what we can build together. If you're already working with Unreal, please speak up and let's start talking, connecting, networking, and building a game for the community, by the community.

And of course, any input unofficial or offical from the devs would be appreciated. This is effectively a call to arms to both help save EC, and prepare us all in the event of it collapsing. I don't think it's an unrealistic or unobtainable goal in the slightest.

    TLDR:

ImI asking that you attempt to familiarize yourself with the process of game design with a hands on approach. Unreal Engine 4 (the same EC uses) is free and well supported through docs, Merc, free assets, and tutorials. Begin to learn, via free tutorials on YouTube. There's a lot of great channels. From there you can learn how to: Make Levels. Game modes, FX, and much more. Once you know some.stuff, or already do, let's come together and talk about trying to have a go at helping EC and/or gathering a knowledgable community to build an EC/40k game we all want to play.

I wasn't able to tie my own shoelaces until I was 8 years old.

    This is some next-level shit.
  3. Finally, another post I can follow without my yearly dosage of salt. :SMShield:

I'm glad to see you're still hanging around here and giving constructive content for people to think about. I always enjoyed reading your posts in the past about what we COULD do with the game, and inspired people to take initiative on new ideas.

Keep up the good work man, looking forward to seeing what your project is!:SMDeal:

Here's what I want you to do if you've never done this before.

4 Really simple steps, do it on your own time, whenever you want.

    1. Download and install Unreal Engine 4.

    It's like any other program.

    2. Open and Register your Epic Games Launcher. (Just launch the program and create an account)

    3. Create a New Project by: Click on the Library Tab in the launcher (it's a lot like your Steam Launcher, just look on the side instead of the top.) Click on the big yellow button that says "LAUNCH" don't worry about the version unless you want to get serious, then download 4.18 or whatever the latest version is for you at the time, otherwise anything you download from the link will work.

    4. Follow this 15 minute Tutorial.

It's very easy. Very quick. If you can make a simple, grey, landscape. You can pretty much make any level you want from there - I can link other tutorials if/when you're interested.

    You're done. You've made a level. Congratz.

If you have any problems let me know.
  5. I'm sure there is a lot of talent out there alongside enough leadership to get this war properly off the ground but I am certain that neither of those are me lol. It's just a matter of getting this heard by enough people really. Sticky?

Maybe. But don't doubt yourself. It really just starts with the will to do something.

IF I actually had time and I was in my twenties still I’d probably learn. I’d make some awesome level at an eldar webway gate. But I don’t have time. And my game still crashes frequently with no one able to help me figure out why. So I’ll keep playing from time to time to support!

Yeah like I said I won't be showing my project here because that wasn't the point of this, but if you're interested in seeing it PM or something, it's non 40k, so I'll be making it available elsewhere. I just wanted to show that it's completely possible to do this on your own and if you're interested we should definitely attempt to help in any way possible.

@ProteusVM who's the guy that was making the ranger? Is there a way to get a hold of him? I was reading that thread you posted in on my phone but forgot which one it was otherwise I'd contact you directly in discord.

    @ImperatorTitanV

But he's moved on from EC as far as I know, he's currently working on his own game.
