Unlikely. F2P will likely be smaller than the paying amount of players if Behavior sticks to its promise of buying the box and owning the game, Guild Wars 2 style.
I think you seriously underestimate the power of Free 2 Play, people will often just try a game and if they like it continue to play F2P, some people live in areas where they have no access to payment options online so can't actually buy games or simply don't have the money spare, you will be seeing a hell of a lot of F2P players assuming Behaviour does a good job with a few Adverts, getting the game on Steam after a while is also a good idea to revitalize the players (and has actually revived some games from a dead state) but you lose 30% of all income and assuming it gets good scores, review sites will also be a good way for more players to try the game. F2P will bolster the Ork numbers without a doubt, I don't think the Space Marines will outnumber them.
whats better than that? if the imperium was back to its former glory and they stopped worshiping the emperor half the reason chaos is such a problem.
If the Imperium as a whole stopped worshipping the Emperor, they would be far more susceptible to chaos-related attacks. As unfortunate as it is for the Emperor (who hated belief and pointless faith and wanted science and technology and whatnot) it does keep the human race safer than it would be without their faith.
You fools pets no one shall stop the dark gods even the orks will be a toys in our hands when we done destroying you and your emperor we will kill all those dump idiots orks blood for the blood gods skulls for the skulls throne for chaos and now hide behind your emperor loyalists dogs!
*Looks at thread* I'm sorry but it had to be done. I mean lets get the facts straight and to the point, if you ally with eldar they'll be your buds for a few mere seconds and then they'll stab you in the back and leave you to be killed off by Tyranids or Necrons, while they run away with their sacred "soul stones" or other ancient artifacts. DOW 2 made that very clear when the eldar used the orks to stop the tyranid's advance on sup-sector Auerlia, while they tried to unearth what they could of a hidden craftworld crash site on typhon primaris. Orks on the other hand are so unpredictable that they can actually become predictable enough into betraying you once they have killed who you want them to kill, so really all you have to do is keep giving them opponents to fight and hope that the greenskins will get wiped out by a better opponent (look up Syndri if you don't know what i mean). Chaos is more of a gamble than a straight up ally, so use at your own discretion, enough said. Tyranids = NOM NOM NOM! Necrons = horrifying metallic space zombies who want to kill off all life, so no way will they help you in FOREVER (say anything about the blood angels/Necron fluff and i will drag you into the warp and torture you for all eternity) DE = A new test subject for the Haemonculi or a slave for the torture pits yay! Tau = Serve the greater good or we'll turn you into Dinner for our Kroot allies, Imperium of man = BELIEVE IN THE EMPEROR OR DIE! Inquisition = you will be used as a tool and die by our hands anyways because we feel like it. So basically......your out of luck pal. Unless the imperium becomes Incredibly desperate, i see no alliances happening anytime soon with any other faction.
id rather jump into a carnifexes throat instead of joinung up with eldar. and why are we talking about alliances and shit if the game isnt even in closed beta and such its not even 2% finished at all it will be out at the end of 2015 so get patient
Goddammit guys, cut it with the RP crap. Players aren't going to behave like the actual characters, there's no reason for them to do so. While there certainly be alliances a la Planetside 2, they will last only as long as Planetside 2 alliances do, which is typically one side voiding the alliance as soon as their 'ally' has a smaller amount of forces in one territory as they push against their united foe- and only ever results when they have a small amount of territory bordering their temporary newfound friends. I mean seriously, how hard is it for anyone to have a serious thought on here that isn't either filled with unfunny meme spam that lost its charge ages ago from fans of the Alfa Legion. Players will make allegiences as they are needed and break them near immediatley whenever an oppertune moment to seize territory is presented, and even then there will be trigger-happy idiot footsloggers that blast away at the nearest enemy irregardless of what their commander tells them which will quickly void any alliance and lead to the two factions blasting away at each other immediately. They'll last as long as it takes for the two allied forces to smash into enemy territory and bump into each other, then blow each other away in an attempt to seize it for themselves. As for fluff-wise, most factions are willing to ally with nearly anything save the Tyranid- with the Tau being pretty much a whore of the factions and allying with anyone that moves and doesn't immediately shoot them. Most alliances are either aligned against Chaos (the Dark Angels and the Necrons teaming up to fight Chaos Space Marines or Tyranids is completely reasonable if the Necrons aren't infected) or the Imperium. With the factions currently in the game, fluffwise the Orks will join anyone so long as the fight is good with only the Imperium likely taking great offense, with the Eldar joining forces with the Imperium. However, these are probably the most constrained factions to ally possibly at the moment- not to mention that it won't matter at all in the game. Players won't behave remotely similar to the fluff except save being more cutthroat. Allies will depend entirely on where the factions spawn on planets and probably be made between factions either slightly connected with adjacent territory or those with no connection what-so-ever, and thus making simultaneous pushes between the territories of the other two players until their forces meet and smash into each other. If there are however console players, I wouldn't have any hopes of alliances lasting long at all. While they are enjoyable, most players attracted from communities like those of COD will be of little tactical use besides being another pair of boots for the commanders to throw at the enemy. Thankfully at least with friendly fire in the game, it'll be easier to motivate players not complying with orders.
Wyzilla, no offence, but you said it yourself -we know nothing about the game yet. So all we can do is speculate. Your guess is as good as anybody else's here. Why shouldn't we roleplay? What makes 40k so engaging and emerging is it's deep lore. People are invested in this Universe and characters and they are loyal to their favourite factions. They roleplay (speculate lorewise) and you give your ideas based on observation of other games and commuities (again, just speculating). IMHO both thigns have their place here. Looking forward to seeing both community analysis and fluff roleplaying. That's all we have and all we can do for the next months and probably even years. For Baal and Sanguinius!
