Initially, i thought that having an arena type matchmaking would be a good thing. After all, wheres the harm in attracting the competitive crowd to this game? Someone earlier said that if you dont like it, you dont have to partake.

Then I thought about this issue some more, and realized if Eternal Crusade did this, They would be doing the same thing Space Marine did with theyre DLC packages, which is divide the playerbase. Dont own chaos rising but want to play multi? better get used to waiting. While it may be less pronounced in a game of this scale, i believe it would be noticable, and my proof is ww2ol. ww2ol is, as far as im concerned, the origional mmofps, which after 10 years STILL has people playing it. The game has struggled with a small playerbase in the last few years, so they introduced a COD-like multiplayer that sure enough split the playerbase. Theres a saying among engineers that i cannot quote perfectly but can paraphrase that fits this situation perfectly. You can create something that does a few things well, or you can create something that does EVERYTHING poorly. since the latter would not be a sensible option, we would be forced to choose between another COD clone and the vision that behavior has for this game. I pick the latter. Let Behavior focus all resources into the massive third person shooter we've all been dreaming about first, and worry about adding on arenas and other silly junk later, if there is room for it.

    my 2 cents.

You know there's other factions besides Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines, right? How are Orks going to leverage a numbers advantage (which their race is built to depend on) in a 12v12 instance? How would Eldar leverage their mobility in a cramped arena?

It would only become more of an issue in the future as more races are added. How would Tau compete in something like that without Battlesuits? How would IG compete without tanks, which is a catch-22 because we already know it would be broken *with* tanks? How broken would Necrons' ability to self-revive be?

Let's just focus on doing one thing and doing it well: massive open-world warfare.

Ok, me and my friends log into the server. We are all Orkz, there's a 100 of us. We find 100 SMs in the battlefield. Oh, no! We can't fight! Our race is meant to outnumber them, so let's find a group of 30 to have a chance to win.

Do you REALLY think someone would develop a game like this? Are you THAT naive?

Someone from Behavior already stated that Nobs are going to be able to kill SMs solo, so your whole point isn't valid.

As for Eldars, warp spiders dont need a 5 km radius to be able to teleport effectively in battle.
  5. The game won't be balanced like that, they already said if an Ork Boy is more skilled than a Space Marine they will be able to kill them or at least have a good chance of doing so.

He has a point though, it's impossible to balance the strengths of different factions when taking instanced combat into account while making sure it's balanced on a large scale.

yes, this. it is impossible to balance on small scale and balance on large scale when factions are not balanced in numbers
  7. 10vs10 no, but 6vs6,12vs12,18vs18 - the group size was 6.
It made the RvR bearable, when 1.4 introduces a huge gear gap. With this being more like a shooter, I hope we won't need those.
  8. Personally I'd like to see a rating and progression system based off of what you do FOR YOUR FACTION each time you spawn:

After every single time you die, you see this post death. You rating, ranking, and points towards progression are all based off the following mission parameters.

-Time of mission(how long you LIVE)
-Objectives defended(objectives assigned by high command)
-Objectives attacked/secured(objectives assigned by high command)
    -Friendly players healed or revived
    -Salvage/resources recovered for your faction
-Friendly players resupplied(player vehicles you repair, ammunition you share, ect)
-Friendly players transported(number of players you carried in your vehicle or aircraft to a landing zone, insertion point)
-Friendly players spawned(number of friendly players that spawned off your vehicle)
-Return to base. Players can return to any friendly spawn area for a "mission complete" status after completing their mission criteria(attack, defend, search and destroy). Despawn their unit at that location to respawn the same unit with full ammo, full armor, ect, or choose another unit.

KDR means jack shit. Staying alive, completing an objective, and returning to base means a lot. You can spawn in and simply salvage resources off destroyed vehicles for your faction, or help out team mates by repairing their vehicle in the field, or resupply their ammo. You can sit on a defense objective and scout for the enemy. Without shooting any enemy at all, but by contributing to your faction, and by simply not getting killed and returning to base, you get points towards your overall rating and points towards your progression.

If you spawn in like an idiot chicken with your head cut off, totally ignoring player placed objectives, totally ignoring your team mates, running into enemy lines mindlessly looking to "Pwn newbs" and you die 50 times in 5 minutes, but you get a few "leet killzzz" you're in game rating is total shit.
