Space marines are the jack of all trades.
They are not specialized in any way.
That's the point. They are meant to be plain and simple, forgiving and not requiring that much micromanagement.
    And yeah. TEH ARMOUR.

  2. So your saying they should just throw out their classes you know what makes them a good force their heavy weapon SPECIALISTS their melee SPECIALISTS see where I'm going here. Oh heaven forbid they wear armor that isn't made out of cardboard as a genral rule a well rounded force requires specialists that can cover all their bases and hate to burst we are all specialists bubble of the eldar you've got guardians and dire avengers you know normal infantry like tactical marines

I think you need to relax a little Michael - there is enough variation and specialization in all four forces, even Orks - but the Eldar are more specialized - that is their gift and their curse.

Space Marines *ARE* the Jack of all Trades, for sure. But they have Jack of All Trades that are also specialized (to a degree) just like Flash Gitz are "specialized" at range, but they are not what I would call "elite specialists."

Well, this has escalated quickly. Let's simmer down and remember that currently, no race has the potential to do anything. The game is no-where near finished and I'm sure the process of getting it all ironed out is going to be a journey we're all looking forward to seeing complete. Tactics should be required by anyone playing a game, and if the game that is produced is going to be any good, we'll all need to think about the best way to proceed. To say that one bunch of people is more dedicated than any other is folly, what is dedication to a video game in the grand scheme of things? Does it really matter? It never fails to amaze me how we have so much in common on a forum (we all love 40k, and video games) and yet we spend our time trying to bitch each other out? Silly.

To keep this thread on topic, however, the Eldar in the lore are the 'skilled underdogs' in a way. Super-humanly capable and intelligent by birth, with incredible lifespans to master whatever they turn their hands to. They are, however, dying and cannot afford to lose In this game, the Eldar 'should' need to be used 'properly' to get the best result, but that up to the developers to nail.

Space Marines are superhuman warriors who excel at fighting the wars of the Imperium. They are less the Jack-of-All-Trades and more the Special-Forces-Meets-Superhuman-Knights. They should be hard as nails, as skilled as their status as the mightiest heroes of humanity might suggest and (at least) as good as the elites of other races (yes, your average Aspect Warrior/Ork Nob/Tyranid Warrior-genus/Battlesuit Pilot/Necron etc.) lore-wise will get turned inside out by an average Marine). Marines also have access to the best gear the Ad Mech can give them. If they didn't bounce bolt rounds and shuriken off of their ridiculous shoulder-pads, I'd say something was wrong.

The fine point is this though. We all know what we want from this game, but we have no concrete info. and none of us have played anything, because there is nothing for us to go on. To summarise, let's just cool off and accept that shouting will achieve nothing. Also, it's my birthday, so buy me cake. :)

  6. Actually there is one thing that is pretty concrete right now more orks are gonna die than any other faction combined

  7. Not really sure about that, since other races just start at completely other levels. Marines are the perfect warriors made from humans, yes, but that doesn't mean, that they can't be reached or outdone by other races.
Eldar and Orcs can keep up with them, when they don't need to fight the way a space marine wants them to.

    And happy birthday :)

    Ugh ugh ugh.

Warpman, don't let your disguise to fall. Remember first rule of Commoragh?..

To be serious, it's too early to speculate about everything. Recent twist in 40k made Eldar second best faction from the second worst they were since middle of 5E. And it's really easier to change balance in computer game.

I guess there will be a hu-u-uge marine wankery at the start, to the point when Eldar and Orkz factions are utterly unplayable. Then, some bright Dev will fix the situation... but marines will whine that they're junk coz they can't defeat a squad of orkz/eldar solo anymore, and it's certainly against the lore, and, given they're majority of players, they'll be given overpowered bullshit again. Hey, that's MMO way! Don't make a balanced one, make a purposefully disbalanced one and play around with aforementioned disbalance.

Even PS2 runs same model. At the very start, Vanu (Eldar-ish faction) were... ug-h... "overpowered" is just not strong enough word to describe how ridiculous they were.
Eventually, they've been nerfed to the ground, and Terran Republic (your SM equivalent which is red for some reason) became the most op faction which has hundred and one advantage over other two.
Time will pass, and SOE will give new toys to the New Conglomerate which would make them godlike.

Everyone will be overpowered at some point. We don't even know what the game itself will be. So, can't we just shut up and wait for more info and may be closed beta? Sure, there are things such as NDA, but somewhere on the globe ownership laws aren't heavily enforced.

    Of course, it
Thank you! And of course, Marines are mortal and can be killed, it's just lore-wise (not table top rules wise, Marines are toned down hugely for that) they average out better than your other guys. The 'crappiest' Marine Initiate is a killing machine. I prefer the Xenos races or the Inquisition myself, but I see the appeal of the super-soldier Marines.
