+1 Id rather have stiffer (giggity) robes then the ones that we have now. For example Guilds Wars 2 does cloth pretty well, @NoahWard might wanna check those out. They still flow as you walk/run/jump but they are far more stiff then the ones in EC, but they look very very good for what they are. And in the World vs World mode where you have hundreds of players all in a single place fighting one another, most of them have some type of cloth that moves, so im assuming its not impossible to have such robes in big fights in EC.
They also didn't have moving cloth physics. Do you want WoW style robe movement? Because that's what that is. I am curious though is MOCAP really all that important? Is hand animating REALLY that much more intensive? Because I'm not exactly seeing the reduction in time to complete things.
Yes. Currently the left leg of the warlock clips completely through the robe, Warlock is teasing by showing leg. And the back half flies up completely like a cape.
Hand animated is faster and cheaper. Look at modders for other games, they can kick out fully animated things in a week easy. With Mocap it takes them months. They could outsource animating/modeling to people and get shit done far far faster than by doing it themselves. Edit: Typos
Sort of off topic, but I would say pretty much everything needs a visual overhaul. Not just Eldar. No idea why EC looks like a game from 2006 when its got a newer engine...or why that engine seems so terribly fragile. I could excuse lackluster graphics if the animations weren't also just plain bad, but the animations are in fact painfully bad. How hard is it to make a decent running animation? Its a small thing really, but so basic that its very noticeable when its done poorly.
Outsources random teams working on things tends to do that. Getting a unified art direction becomes very hard.
Thats really make me upset because there is no perfect mmotps or tps in market right now and EC has melee and ranged in same time. If EC looks good with good optimization there would be 3 times more player around. For example look at the For Honor there is no huge concent about this game, totally 4v4 sword fight again and again but already created great hype.
