Eldar Point Capturing - Is Dire Avenger enough?

Discussion in 'Eldar' started by Brujah, May 16, 2016.

  1. That would allready help. Especially with the rigid role of Avengers. Even if it is lore accurate, they should have options to adjust it to their playstyle. Not as many as others, but some at least
  2. THE NATHANIMAL EventHorizon Arkhona Vanguard

If you switch the Avenger Shuriken Catapult to burst mode it becomes much more accurate and effective at range. Though the damage is lower, as it should be, I've killed many people this way because it was accurate.

I agree, the "Shuriken Catapult" ist not this effectiv as it should be.
It should be a bit stronger, I think. Besides the eldar lag in armor but have massive fire power and psionic shields.

And a bit less waiting time to find a battle for Eldar would be nice :D
Yes, I know... it all depends to the players. :p ^_^

At moment saying: "Eldar are deadly" is not fully accurate but I am sure it will be fixed soon when they add some buffs to dmg and accuracy (I am very intersted in new offensive powers that we will get soon)

Exactly why they should allow for Dire Avengers to have some melee specialization(which gives Eldar Avengers, Scorpions, Banshees and Warlocks for 4 melee classes and Avengers, Hawks, Reapers and Dragons for 4 ranged classes) and enable Warlocks to capture as well. It provides a secondary unit to capture so it is more difficult for enemies to focus fire the cappers and prevent the Eldar from taking points in the first place, especially considering the greater number of classes will likely mean a lower number of Avengers in comparison to other factions' capping classes.

Eldar should actually be focused mostly around short and medium range combat with their long range weapons mostly relegated to Dark Reapers and vehicles.

Balance does > Lore but only when making necessary balance changes.
The SC should be a close range weapon because that's what it's supposed to be. If you don't want to use WH40K weapons, don't play WH40K: EC.

Bolter TTK vs Dire Avenger should be: 1.25-sec, 6 Bolts, 0.25-sec Fire Rate, 30 Bolt Mag
    Accuracy: 3.4-cm spread at 24-meters
Major Damage Drops: 48 and 96-meters

D.A. S.Cat TTK vs SM should be: 1.242-sec, 24 Shuriken, 0.054-sec FR, 120 Shuriken Core
    Accuracy: 4.5-cm spread at 24-meters
Major Damage Drops: 36 and 72-meters

While the SC is less accurate and has less range, its low recoil and high FR should not only keep it relatively balanced performance-wise with the Bolter at medium range but should give it the advantage in close range.

I do feel we're really going to suffer once Hawks and Banshees are in. We already see times where we need to cap but have no Avengers around. It's all well and good saying you can respawn as one, but you need to be at the Capture Point with the rest of your team, not another area of the map.

Starting to think that Banshees should be the second cappers for Eldar. That matches the (C)SM balance, with one melee and one ranged capper. It can be tweaked once the full complement of Wargear comes in. Seems reasonable that Dire Avengers can cap at a low points cost, then Banshees and Fire Dragons can cap with a high points cost.

Having seen them play, I think I would probably retract my suggestion that Warlocks should cap, unless their capping was either massively expensive, or had a different system (you maybe have to stay interacting with the point until it's capped so you can't do anything else whilst doing it). The existing method, even with a somewhat high buy-in, would make them too powerful.
  7. During testing, when the SC hat close to perfect accuracy it was weaker than a bolter, but really accurate. The gameplay with it was quite entertaining, you could not facetank a marine, but evade, land some precice shots, get away and repeat this. Hit and run like eldar should be. Just a suggestion :)

What i said needs to be corrected: Balance > Fun > Lore

But honestly, although i admire your dedication, do you really think someone is reading this numbers and considering them? Afaik you calculated them from tabletop and you cannot balance a Real time third person shooter based on turn-based tabletop values, just sayin ;)

Of course you can, so long as you use the same sophisticated algorithm for each conversion. Which isn't to say the Tabletop is balanced (it's not), but that if that's what you chose to use as your balance, you could do so.

  9. Hm, to determine this, i we need implement his values just for once. Until then, im not too sure, both systems (Real time shooter vs. Turn based game) seem to different to me.
But of course i could be wrong :D

It's all maths when it comes down to it. It shouldn't really matter what balance you use, so long as it's consistent. Of course, if we were to go with pure Tabletop Balance then the only Eldar who could consistently win against Space Marines would be Dark Reapers and they would do so virtually every time through their superior range.
