That's a really cool idea each having their own music/themes. I like that idea a lot!

  3. Freddie Mercury is obviously an Eldar.
Roger Taylor a Slaaneshi cultist, look at his eyes and you'll see it!
    John Deacon is an Ork.
And Brian May, well, he's probably The Emperor!
  4. Hello crusaders, thanks for your input

yes there was an other topic on Eldar music started couple of weeks ago in reaction to the twitch when we introduced Maxime Goulet, our composer. You can find it here:
    https://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/eldar-music.47519/

Now regarding some of the suggestions here, i'm happy to see a begining of a consensus on what could be the music for the Eldars, 2 years ago it was not that obvious. :)

I think @Varus_Kai suggestions are pretty on track, and i do like the Fury soundtrack suggested by @Feyaden

We were already thinking of using some female vocalist for the Eldar, since, in our game, they will be (so far) the only faction with some female charaters

@Veldoran_the_Warlock planetside 2 suggestion is pretty good too, but probably too much emphasise on the techno dance sounds. Why do you fear you'll get Tau music? do you have an example?

Yes there will be some techno elements in the music but the main core for all faction is the orchestra. As explained in the music twitch, of course we are incorporating other music elements to give a different feeling for every faction, like heavy distortion layer for Chaos, but it is still the same band that is playing the music, not one band per faction ;-)

And don't worry, yes easternish or oriental elements can give a more zen vibe to the score, but it can still work in fast pace for combat music, so you'll get the proper enegry level in the music for every faction

On a side note, regarding the music being too much human not enough alien in nature, all suggestions i have hear so far no matter the genre are very very human in its nature. ;-)
Even if it is made with synths rather than an orchestra, we are still in a very safe common zone, with tonal melodies and harmonies, and simple rythmic structure. It is all a matter of perception.

Thanks for your input and keep the suggestions coming! :)

I should have posted this long ago, but I was less active here the last couple of weeks:

This is original music inspired by my favorite Eldar faction:

I think it really captures the feel of Eldar as mystical and emotional (in regards to the intensity Eldar can feel emotions) faction.
I like the idea of female vocalists @MathieuLavoie , however the above track shows that male vocalists also work well (maybe even both in the same track? I would LOVE that).

    @MathieuLavoie

The Farscape+Autrechre idea is really good.

Also Solitaire is right that you should probably just message Relic and ask to use For The Craftworld and Khaine's Wrath - because they are so fantastic and on-point (they even fit the Farscape vocals + Autrechre intrumentals idea mentioned above).

Fury also fits the same pattern - so I like that we're all pretty aligned here :)

To support the Vanu Soverignty idea - I'd suggest something like Highland's No Way Out. Which when I first heard (15 years ago now) immediately thought of a Farseer singing about Slaanesh, and Banshees shredding across the field, beneath a hail of Reaper fire: (jump 90 seconds)

Alternately, another good contribution to the above "Farscape+Autrechre" formula (which Fury and the DoW 2 music also match) - would be the soundtrack of the movie Bladerunner, by Vangelis:

Lastly, you could consider something quite different from all the above - something otherworldly / fantastical like Dead Can Dance, or even folksy-fantasy like Eluveitie:

    Here you go @MathieuLavoie

first couple minutes has the suspense building up

2 and a half minutes in the piano brings the wonder

around 3 minutes the mystique begins with the fem vocals.

and right before 5 minutes it starts to sound outer worldly

Also on the topic of what Tau Music is - simply put - Asian. Eldar are Space Elves (Elves being Scandinavian/European mythology), we're not Asian, we're not Human.

The key to all of it is - which I think everyone agrees on - it needs to sound Alien: like something a human wouldn't compose (though we are obviously constrained by only having access to human composers! :))

So that's why unusual instruments and syncopated rhythms, stressed off-beats, and alien singing makes sense for the Eldar.

Take chances - I think we'd all much rather something creatively Eldar-ish (attempted), than just a generic Orchestral (human) soundtrack.

Obviously the below is pretty dated (the background melody is hilariously 90's by now), but the alien opera singer in Fifth Element did a good job of trying something unusually Alien sounding and being received very well: (jump 3:40 minutes in) - go for weird :D

I'm sorry, I disagree with you Yvaelle.

In fact IMO the basic concept with music in fictional backgrounds is always something that sounds pleasing and familiar to human ears, otherwise you wouldn't listen to it over and over again. It's supposed to be in-game music.

It is just like with world music, where usually western sound patterns are used to make music that sounds like it comes from another culture but is not genuine nor is it supposed to sound genuine. The purpose is to transport an image from that culture, which is also what the composer should try to achieve here.

    Example:

A masterpiece from Antti Martikainen, which is supposed to transport an image of Chinese culture, but is not Chinese music. I know which one I prefer.
