Well, there has been talk of music in the livestream. But I've not seen anything from the community in the Eldar form. So how about we put our 5 cents in? Question; When you think of Eldar music, what do you think of? This is one of mine. It's very Imperial Guard copping it from the Eldar....
I don't know to much about Eldar but very recently I'm taking quite the interest. I apologize if this isn't very Eldar like. When I think of Eldar I think of speed and swiftness. This for some reason makes me think of their Craftworlds.
I think the music for the Eldar should be strange and alien, not a score like we have had for the Marines and Chaos. No "real" instruments at all. Eldar would play odddevices created by the finest Bonesingers, use strange tempos, scales and timing. The music would be dark, as one would expect from a race on the edge of extinction and who have stared Chaos in the eye for millenia. A cross between the female vocalisations in the Farscape theme tune and Autchre would be a close fit to try to demonstrate. Deeply strange and otherworldly and not a violin or brass section to be heard.
@NoiseMaker Varus is headed in the right direction. During Into the Warp Episode 33 (27 minute mark) Mathieu Lavoi talked about giving Eldar music an “ethnic” flavor, using a myriad of instruments to make it sound unique and not solely resemblant of one culture. He’s certainly on the right track, but in my mind, Eldar music and Eldar battle music are two different things. Eldar music should sound ethnic/harmonic/oriental. However, when Eldar fight their war-mask clouds all thought but for battle. There is no harmony, only war. They’re so consumed by Khaine they’ll even massacre the enemies’ children. Thus I think a dark orchestra theme would be most fitting for battle. Here’s a great example. Give this piece a listen – Not daemonic, but dark, whispery and serious. Compose music like that and side it with faster/lighter/adventurous pieces like what Varus posted and you'll have yourself some epic Eldar music.
I could've sworn there already was a thread about music in the Eldar forums, but I can't find it now... Whatever the case, @Feyaden gave the best example. It's perfect, in my opinion. I can really imagine this going in the backgroung while I play my Eldar. As for the music, months ago I've started my own thread in the fan-art section to showcase my orchestral compositions, inspired by the Eldar. If you find a minute or two, go there and check it out.
A warm greeting to you Zavalus! Aye Fury's soundtrack is quite excellent. It will be playing in the background when I land on Arkhona. It's also great writing music! I enjoyed your music very much. If I ever make an audio drama I’d probably use it, with your consent. Not to get off-topic but I have some great Eldar literature in the works. It's not battle music, but here's another piece that I think fits the Eldar -
Meh= Giving us Human Japanese-Chinese styled music. Our pride is far more higher than any of Humans. I dont understand why they cant simply give us this... (I mean, something like this) View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrzW0PFjsjQ View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJpPzjHkDUs WE ARE ELDAR! I really liked what Solitaire and Varus posted. At least if it is little mystic = more mystic, with High pinched female vocal orchestra with sci-fi/techno effects behind it... I totally fear we will get some Tau-style music. EDIT: Or maybe something like Vanu have from Planetside 2... I can totally feel it THERE! View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23cxD0zKiFk
The Vanu music is the closest I've heard to what I have in my head for the Eldar's music. Everything else is, well, too human. I'd be happy to compromise for something along those lines rather than just another traditional "epic" score.
Yeah Chinese style music is certainly human-ish and maybe it's not what an Eldar would compose but Eldar aren't all about pride, they're about finding peace, and the music is very peaceful and a bit otherworldly. The Vanu theme is interesting I think you're on the right track.
Was going to make a suggestion but I think what's posted here is better. It's cool to think developers actually read these posts. Samurai music reminds me of Biel-Tan for some reason, maybe because of all its warriors. Ghostly whisper music would be great for Iyanden I hope a dev reads this. Maybe each craftworld should have a different kind of music.
