Eldar in game sooner than expected?

  1. Space Marines are referred to as being completely unencumbered by Power Armor in all of the Lore, Rulebooks and Storybooks. They can run, jump, roll, slash and dodge without speed loss. They move as if they are wearing linen shirts and shorts.

However, the speed at which they do these things would be akin to the pro athletes of the modern world. Fast to be sure, compared to us slow keyboard jockeys, but the Eldar are said to not so much run as much as BLUR across the battlefield.

For the sake of our game, we have to slow everybody down so that we can actually control the Eldar instead of it being a twitchy spasmy experience to keep up. :) I still say the speed of the Aliens in the very first AVP game would be appropriate.

As for the executions, in DoW 1 the Harlie coud instagib a member of a squad and then it's BOILING BLOOD sprayed the rest of the squad and hurt them. If they are in game, the kisses etc. should be incredibly gory (remember it's a monofilament tube inserted in an enemy which then proceeds to make the victim a pulp from the inside).

As for the Craftworld Eldar, the thing is they like elegant things. They use "lasers" and swords for this reason, to kill and execute with class. Sure, sometimes they'll put a chainsword to your face, but it's far from the human version of the chainsword (monomolecular blades, so incredibly thin saw!). It seems to me the CEldar like to cut. Even their basic weapons (shuriken) cut their enemies to ribbons. There is a lot of space to elaborate on the topic of slashing.

how do you think our shuriken based weapons will be ? This is complete theory craft, but I think they may shoot fast with little recoil requiring more up time ? I dont know, what do you all think ?

In general, the CEldar don't like recoil. Confirmed both by the design of their weapons and the sorts of ammo they use. Recoil is generally the result of the small propellant explosion in the chamber of a firing gun - the Eldar don't use explosive material to propel any of their projectiles - so it would make no sense for their weapons to have similar kick to a Bolter.

Ex. The Shuriken Catapult fires mono-molecular slices of a plasti-crystal composite at incredibly high speeds and in extremely rapid succession. The individual rounds are thus extremely light (in the real world, such a projectile would be likely over a hundred times lighter than even a small bullet). Functionally a Catapult is more akin to a beam weapon than a bolter.

This is similarly true for weapons like the Warp Spider Death Spinners - which fire monofilament wire (again very light weight) - or Striking Scorpion Mandiblasters (which fire needles). The general trend amongst all Eldar projectile weapons is that we replaced the need for firing massive kinetic projectiles - with simply firing tiny projectiles at incredible velocity and volume. Much easier to control, much more precise.

Reapers do fire mini-missile projectiles - however note the word 'mini' - and also that Reaper armor includes exoskeletal legs and back bracing designed specifically to support their heavy weapons. Even still, they are probably the closest thing the Eldar have to a recoil-impacted projectile weapon.

Our rangers are the only other projectile weapon wielders - a Ranger Long Rifle is essentially a rail gun firing a scalpel many times faster than the speed of sound. Due to the terrifying speed of the projectile (even amongst Eldar weapons), and the much larger ammunition (perhaps thousands of times heavier than a given shuriken) - it generates significant recoil: or would - but the Eldar dislike recoil.

That's why Eldar Long Rifles are all equipped with gyroscopic arms that perfectly counteract not just weapons-fire recoil, but also stabilize the users sway and movement-motion. This gives the feel that our Long Rifles have a mind of their own - they are constantly kicking and jerking around while in movement: which is disorienting to initiates, but to which the Rangers pride themselves on growing accustomed (after all, all those movements are designed to compensate and prevent recoil and sway).

All the rest of our weapons are energy weapons - lasers, beams, plasma, pulse - all recoil-less.

I just cant wait to have some Striking Scorpion fun :)

We skip merrily along the path of war, hand in bloody hand, singing ballads of mischief and victory. Such is the Eldar way.

Oh sure, we dress in ridiculous colors - and some of our weapons may fire rainbows - both they are Rainbows of Death - and what color could be more vibrant and flamboyant than fountains of fresh arterial Mon'keigh blood :)

Did a solid laugh in my cubical. I must admit this did buckle me.

  9. Effectively in game it will likely feel like a FN P90 SMG. Incredibly high fire rate with projectiles that do very little damage and nearly zero recoil.

There's nothing ridiculous about white pants
