I know, just trying to say that is not a big deal or something set in stone.

Personally, I think it would be nicer to just be able to play either gender from the start.

All female banshees is one of those strange myths that have been created just because thats what so many wanted to hear.

GW has always had in their fluff that both males and females fight from within whichever aspect temple they are called to. So it is not uncommon to see females (or males for that matter) in any eldar armor. However, they have said many times that, typically, more females are drawn into banshee temples then are male.

Now, as far as within the game. There was some quotes from Brent that personally I didn't much care for. Having to unlock specific male or female genders. In my opinion VERY NOT SMART (just didn't want to say stupid). I see Eldar having both genders in game a bonus for us in the numbers game, and we NEED that. If we (the player) must unlock a gender how many will walk away? As devils advocate IF a player could decide on which gender at the start of character creation (could pick either) and later could unlock the opposite gender body parts thin I guess that would be cool. A lot strange but I could deal with it...

As someone who usually plays female characters when presented with an option that doesn't influence gameplay, I'll say screw unlocking and gender-locking. Make a character, and male or female, allow them to be both Banshees and Scorpions. Not at the same time, of course.

Gender in video games is (usually) a purely aesthetic thing but one - and in fact, the one where it's the most important, to me - that shouldn't ever be restricted when there's no reason to do so. No female Orks, Marines, et cetera? Sure, it's in the lore. No male Witch Elves in Fantasy? Sure, it's in the lore. No female Scorpions/male Banshees? Why would we do that?

The main reason I'm opposed to this is I don't see what's the problem with just allowing them. There's no advantage or disadvantage, and there's no fluff backing.

Since when were scorpions primarily male? There's nothing in their mythos that I know of that would prevent a female from becoming one. I think the only problem is with having large numbers of male banshees and really I would be willing to tolerate that for the sake of gameplay.
I'm not sure if it's worth bothering with a system like this for something that is only a lore issue for one class.

That'd be up to you, you could use the same name. ;)

THis thread was made to bring the quotes from another thread, comments made by Brent to a forum member, in a PM to public light,

the quote said they were considering implementing a gender locking choice on 2 Aspects ( that Banshees would be female, and Scorpions would be male) that would then have a subsequant unlock mechanic at "some point later in the game" allowing the male Banshee and female Scorpion to be playable,

but the quote also said it would depend on "community discussion" as to wether this would be implemented,

Well this is "communty discussion", might not of been exactly what Brent intended or the manner in which he intended us to discuss it.....but now at least we know of his idea and can talk about it

how this mechanic would effact gameplay is interesting,

    1) does this mean your character gender choice made at the time you created it will be ignored when you spawn as the one Aspect your chosen gender doesnt comply with, that youll spawn as that Aspect but in a different gender until you unlock that gender for that Aspect?

this seems a pointless complication in an otherwise simply model system, if the Aspects have both genders already modeled for, then surely allowing both genders to be availible without a grind wall is obviously simpler.

    2) does this mean your characters gender choice will effectively lock you out from spawning as the one Aspect your gender doesnt comply with, role a female Eldar and you cant play a Scorpion until you unlock that Aspect for that gender?

this is a version of sexism at its worse, by denying access to an Aspect due to gender choice is denying access to gameplay the player has rightfully already paid for

other aspects of this possible decision range from,,,

inappropriatly gender specific names appearing over particular Aspects?...male Scorpions called "Sally" and female Banshees called "Trevor" are both jarring to immersion and frankly a stupid thing to consider allowing to occur,

facial customisations, wear a helm and its all fine..sure, but if you prefer not too is it possible we end up seeing Scorpions sporting lipstick and blush, or Bashees with little moustaches?....can we do everything possible to avoid this PLEASE
  8. Best get used to the idea of horribad names now... as for Eldar and genders I think that the lore for them for the last 20 odd years has them being very prosaic when it come to who does the fighting. I dont see why there would be ANY limit on innies or outies. Not only that but it may be VERY cool to see an artist take classic ideas of and flip them.

I can handle players with names like "1p4wnun00b5", may not like it but we're all used to that

a female Banshee running around with "b1ggezd1kkez" floating over her head though is a trifle more disturbing lol
