I have to wonder though, if balance is at all influenced via the forums and demands/wants/feedback/cries coupled with map balance, how will there ever be victors taking over the map? If balance is always reacted to based on that map then it will never be balanced based mechanics and system, it will be balance on literally worst faction play determining who's getting nerfed and buffed.
Quite frankly until they add some additional mechanics to the campaign map all it's good for is gauging faction balance. You're absolutely right that you want factions to be ableable to gain territory from each other and not have a perfect 50% winrate, but it should involve at least a slight form of strategy, not just a faction beating the crap out of everyone in random pug matches. And if right after release you have one faction dominating everyone and one faction getting destroyed by everyone that is indicative of a big problem.
Or it could mean that the losing side was less coordinated, or not coordinated at all. It could be faction imbalancing, but you also have to look at team coordination as well, since it's a team based tactical shooter.
It's true, a lot of people have been finding lack of balance the reason behind their losses in matches, while it was in fact mostly due to their uncoordinated gameplay and perhaps in part thanks to matchmaking pitting veterans against noobs. Yeah Eldar are not so easy to compete with, but they're a good challenge - isn't that what makes playing fun, a challenge? But i've said it before and i'll say it again - overall eldar armor/health/toughness rating should be reduced. That would partly negate all the complaints about eldar speed and weaponry. It seriously makes no sense when a slender, light-armored space elf takes as much beating to take down as a hulking 3-meter-high superhuman in power armor pumped full of battle stimulants for Gods' sake.
Agreed. I've been a part of a few close matches where the Eldar PuG was at the same level as a Chaos PuG and the outcome was a super slim victory for Chaos. Due to a lack of coordination. There are items that need to be addressed, there always have been and if the Devs find that their data is skewed towards one faction I think they will make changes accordingly. Near as I can tell the numbers for Toughness/Armour/Health are roughly the same across factions and even where toughness is much higher (on Nurgle marines for instance) a little Pen on a weapon goes a very long way to negating that. Either way, interested to see what the Devs come up with for their first patch.
I was playing as a Banshee once, and got two-hit killed by a Chainsword, with a +25 to Armor and four stamina, along with using my banshee mask on them, and catching them from surprise in a 1v1 situation. I know how to play as Banshee too, since it's practically all I've played, and got to rank four. Succesful parry stuns on Space Marines last less than one second, or rather, not even long enough for me to get one hit off with a quick melee before the space marine is rolling directly out of reach and back to attacking me. I've even had fights where I parried the Space Marine 5+ times in a row, and he still regained control in about half of a second, if that. Not to mention Space marines can throw grenades while in melee combat, as soon as they jump pack away, and right after being stunned. While from my experience, I have to wait 2+ seconds after getting hit, or swinging my sword to be able to do anything. I can't even do the rather pathetic flip away while I'm getting hit because it's often a stun-lock and 1-2 hit kill weapon I'm getting spammed with. Let's not forget to mention the Space marine and Chaos Space marine evade lowers their hitboxes to a single pixel, and travels twice the distance, if not more, than the Eldar's evade. While the Eldar just flip about a foot or two away and then proceed to get killed within moments. The Banshee execution is also terrible, since you're stuck in the animation for about 2 seconds after it's done, and if you take any damage within that time the execution is cancelled and the person goes back to their regular revive meter. The Space marines and Chaos Space marines also get the Plasma gun, which is a one-hit kill, seemingly risk-free, that Tacticals are able to get. (Don't play either faction, but it seems like it's the most basic/common class that is using them) Meanwhile the Eldar capping class only gets one type of weapon to choose from, the two melee classes each only get one weapon to choose from, I can't tell any difference in the Swooping Hawk's guns (Don't play as them as I'm terrible at it), the Warlock is entirely support, as the only offensive Psyker power they get is absolutely terrible for what it costs/does, and the Fire dragons are only good against Vehicles. I know it might come of as me sounding angry/upset, and maybe I am, but I'm just so tired of hearing about how much the Eldar need nerfing, when I'm constantly getting killed in 1-2 hits from practically all weapons.
JPAs are a bit harder for my Banshee to deal with, thankfully they've gotten pretty Rare at my time of play, but I normally elect to shoot them out of the sky. Also haven't dealt with Plasma as much either, that might change as more Euro players get more shiny things. Problem is I've not played against Chaos enough to really judge them, but right now as a Banshee, Orks in general are the worst to try to deal with.
I dunno dude, what u said sounds reasonable and all, but i'd agree with Angelic on the health point - it seems relatively similar across factions, which again is super friggin weird. I've been doing close combat for a while now and honestly, it does take about as many hits to kill an eldar as to kill an sm or an ork. Unless i'm using a strong powerfist attack that is. Which i totally am now, all the time, cus im sick of this shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Yeah, your dodge doesn't take you far enough away to escape the strike range of a power axe and this to me seems like a massive bug, as would the stun as it can make things even more pitiful when your a reaper caught in melee and you can't do the favourite marine trick of Dbash, jump back, shoot them in the face as they do with a heavy bolter, not to mention the shuriken cannon while no doubt being a FAR superior supression weapon needs to be held on target for much longer than the heavy bolter that can do it in 2 shots assuming they aren't glancing hits.
Maybe it's just your weapon then, since I'm very frequently just staring at my screen waiting to respawn if I don't attack a space marine, chaos space marine, or ork from behind with a power attack, right after screaning at them to hopefully increase my damage. Even then they'll usually survive, roll around, and proceed to stunlock me because the defense bash lasts long enough for a poweraxe to get in a good 2-3 swings, which is enough to outright kill me from full health/downed state. I just literally have to hope I can do enough damage in the first hit, or survive long enough to get a second hit in before getting stunned for 2+ seconds and insta-killed, and then called OP, because having 5+ weapons for all of your classes is balanced, compared to the extremely bare-bones the Eldar have. I mean, the Striking Scorpions don't even have their Mandiblasters yet, one of the most important parts of their entire aspect is missing entirely, not to mention Eldar only having access to the 'Sword' tier, while all the other factions have weapons reaching all the way up to 'fist/claw' tier. Please, do keep regaling me on how balanced your faction is, while the Eldar are overpowered, while having less that half of the stuff you all have. Sorry, forgot to breathe for a moment, but my point still stands, I think.
