The first time I saw an Eldar.
This gave me an uncanny alien vibe with the way he is standing and with the intimidating red eyes. At the time I did not know how they looked under the helmet, when I saw this I imagined them being some sort of hideous insectoid race hiding their appearance behind beautifully crafted armors and weapons, that behind their appearance was a primal sinister conscious. Honestly gave me shivers down my spine each time I saw it.
Pardon me if this has already been posted.

That was around the time I saw the Eldar for the first time too! Or maybe my first time was even earlier, as they mostly had those terrible grated 'mouths' on their terrible helmets. I also thought they were some hideous creatures inside. To know there is actually a space elf inside this armor, burning some space marines with a flamethrower - that was a revelation!

Indeed it was quite a shocker for me aswell when I saw how they actually looked. I was even more surprised how well they had pulled off the concept of "Elfs in Space"
Your comment about their apparently more bizarre look reminded me of a another picture.

Apparently ancient Eldar leaders, dunno which edition they are from though judging by thee drawing 2 ed or even eariler.
The picture is rather small(bigger version if you click on it in the wiki http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Eldar) put if you look closely it looks like the amor is almost organic. The arms looks like exposed muscle and their armor looks like skin of a toad or salamander. If I had seen this at the time I saw the Eldar for the first time I would have thought this was their true appearance behind the armor. Interesting to see how much their design has changed.

I hope the devs will have options so that they look more alien, the portrayal of them in DoW2 was too much pointy eared human for my liking

This has probably been posted before but it's just to show how alien Eldar can look compared to DoW2's portrayal. Extremely pale and almost completely black eyes and un-usual facial and head decoration with, what appears to be, a gem in his forehead and other things of that nature on the right side of his head.

Regards first bit could also be more Exodites style... :)

My lore on the Eldar is limited even more so on Exodites.
The wiki just states they are ancient Eldar leaders. For what I have seen of the Exodites it seems like they do have somewhat the same equipment as craftworlders but have missing pieces and/or have made it more crude looking but I have never seen organic armor. It looks like an old picture so Exodite design has probably seen alot of changes too, but I am just talking out of my power pants at this point :p
Bah! You are probably right Uriel, I am not gonna question one who has RP'ed for 5 years especially regarding Eldar lore :D

Exodites have equivalent tech to craftworlders but live a harder life in the way of closer with nature and more manual labor, I.e. Growing their food with farming instead of letting machines do that. So Exodites in eye real display themselves more in sync with nature which makes it realistic that they have organic armor like some elves are displayed in some fantasy universes. Also ancient Eldar leaders could mean both before and after fall. If the info is 1st or 2nd ed then I believe there was little to no info to Exodites anyway, @Jorimel would know better. So it could be that ancient back then was equivalent to Exodites now.

Furthermore I or a lot and know a good chunk of Eldar but ism not all knowing ;)

This is not a good example, it's a terrible art, where the artist just failed to handle proportions. T-Rex arms, under-developed head, legs three times longer than would be appropriate.. A very bad example. The details are nice, but the proportions are as off, as they can only be. The same story with the EC store image for Ranger.

The Eldar are taller than your average mon'keigh, yes, but they are proportionate. DoW got the Eldar pretty much OK with some rare exceptions.

As for the old design, with more biologic look, I like it too, but the new one is awesome in it's own way.. I'd like to see the shapes of the new Eldar look with some older details.

    *bow* Thanks, Velos!

    Exodites:
As the time of the Fall approached, some of the Eldar decided that this "Lord of Pleasure" business sounded like it might be a really, really bad thing. They left the Eldar homeworlds and headed far away, seeking planets where they could live simple lives of hard work and honest toil, hoping by this means to stem the rot of decadence that was fast overtaking their brethren. They became known as Exodites and, although they have access to all the usual Eldar technology, for much of the time they don't use it. Slaanesh makes work for idle hands. Those that fled far enough from what is now the Eye of Terror survived the Fall, and they have a culture with elements both of a feudal society, and primitive nomadic herders, often making use of large, dinosaur-like beasts they know as dragons. Source: Eldar Codices; WD 127.

TL; DR - dragons, lasers, castles. What's not to love? :D

If you would like, you can PM me if you like to talk about this sort of thing, as I don't want to hijack the art thread. :)
