Looks like a (wet?) dream of a Spehss Mahreen. The absurdity of situation, strange text and armor colors.. all points to the unreality and, of course, to the subject's eminent fall to Chaos and Heresy, as he is secretly attracted to aliens (or one particular alien) and wants to shower them with petals and speak of beauty, poetry and music with them.

I don't think the fact that the Dark Eldar have canonical Bikini Warriors per se makes the inclusion of Bikini Warriors any less facepalm-worthy. It's just somewhat forced on beH by GW. At least it's gender-equal Bikini Warrior derp, I guess.

Wyches are based on gladiators, they didn't exactly wear a lot of armour either. Of course it's silly, but this is 40K. Taking it too seriously doesn't bode well for you.
...not to mention that most armour is useless anyway in the context of 40K.

You can either wear cardboard or look fabulous. And Wyches want to look fabulous.

I hope you being just sarcastic about it since the true reason why Wyches are half naked and keep usually their right solar-plexus (i believe it was right) exposed so that enemy try to strike for it. They anticipate such stupidity and expose their enemy that way. The exposure of flesh is truly just to give the enemy false hopes and make his moves come in a particular way so the counter it accordingly.

I somehow didn't think of it that way after reading a bit. Still don't like it. Sorta makes sense until the enemy catches on to their tricks. So shouldn't every DE gladiator and records of those fighting vs DE know that? Or do they have some space elf mind tricks constantly whispering to however many enemies they're on a battlefield with "attack me here! Come at me bro!" But that too raises a point. Many variables in a battle which are multiplied in war. If they're caught by surprise, blind sided or defense broken through, then armor would help. Glancing blow on armor is better than a glancing blow on flesh. Last I checked flesh is important to fight and, you know, living no matter how hot...I mean heretical and accursed evil xeno temptation luring into false sense of judgement. <_< >_> Yeah.

I also found these at lexicanum wych page: Hydra gauntlet (DE have awesomely badass stuff!) & this quote "Wyches wear a flexible bodyglove known as a Wychsuit. The most notable feature of this suit is that it has been designed to particularlly protect one side of the wearers body (usually the side they most often expose to their opponents) whilst the other side has sections cut away, baring naked flesh."
[IMG] Also artwork at that same page. That look is fine and gives a proper DE impression which bikini warrior does not...but can still get more armor without sacrificing mobility I think :p. Also I want that whip/sword. Don't know artist but page says source is Codex: Dark Eldar (5th Edition) pg. 27. Style seems like other works I have seen at Majesticchicken gallery @DeviantArt with Paul Dainton, Dave Gallagher involved.
The above vs this [IMG] Just add more to this design and it would be perfect, intimidating terror. image found @wikia. Lelith Hesperax, Dark Eldar succubus of the wych cult known as Cult of Strife, and the undisputed champion of gladiatorial arenas on Commorragh.

I was referring to the Wychsuit as well. Especially with the 'Whipblade' that can extend and pull together as required it is a good trap. Also, think yourself in combat. Let's take Dead Space for example.

You always aim on the yellow stuff because you know it's a weakness. Now imagine an enemy knows you focus on nothing but the yellow stuff, trying to hit it all the time. You neglect your own defense and crap because you focus too hard on it. Sure you could try hitting other stuff, but then you have the chance of not making as much damage and wasting ammo or effort.

It is a simple constant reminder, it is that typical "so close, yet so far." kinda thing. In combat, especially if a Wych would fight defensively to taunt you etc. you will lose temper most likely and try to hit her in the exposed spot. She is awaiting that moment. Of course (at least as DE and perhaps Deathwatch marine) you are trained to fight that desire to hit in the exposed flesh.

But once more. The constant reminder of a weak spot is right in front of your face, your sub-conscious and survival instinct will keep yelling "HIT HER THERE AND SHE DIES GODDAMMIT GO DO IT!" but at the same time your logical mind knows it's a trap. But we all know what happens when adrenaline rushes through your veins and it's all about living or dying.

As you are probably no soldier or so, you think too reasonable about it.

But gameplay wise jumping into Eternal Crusade fighting as DE or vs DE they should have an impact which I feel isn't portrayed right with "bikini warrior" look. It doesn't impress and is often ridiculed. When fan service such as that happens in other games, TERA or Skyrim mods come to mind, I roll my eyes and think it a silly gimmick which results in not taking it seriously and outright skipping it. Sometimes other content can cover that feeling up other times not.
I don't think when playing that the look of our armor will be able to do any of that baiting. So cosmetics could change for DE Wych when they're added to EC in the far future.

It seems to me that you don't like the official look of DE, imagining them in some other way. That's hardly a concern for the developers, both at GW and bE. Moreover, the bE devs too have a personal image of how everything should look in their game.

I'd say you just don't need to bother yourself thinking of DE in EC anyway. It's not going to happen in the next 3 years or ever. And first we have to see the good game with at least 4 races implemented on acceptable level.

And in any case, the guys here have said it already - the Wyches are gladiators, it's a bloody show business. They have lots of exposed flesh to make the show more spectacular in the first place.
And it can't be compared to any fantasy bikini-warriors, as this is a gladiator's suit, not armor. They live until they are agile, and their armor parts are not going to save them much, they can't TANK in in their suit. They can block a knife, not shrug off a heavy blow, not to mention a weapon fire. The fantasy bikini-warriors on the contrary are wearing panties and bras of steel that somehow give them tons of protection from any kind of damage.

The DE-codex suggests that the other half of their body (which has armour similar to kabalites) is actually meant to block something if they are shot at.

Would be cool to have "directional armour" if wyches are implemented. Maybe different modes for movement where in one the body is turned slightly sideways for the protected part to be facing whatever the wych is running at.

    Anyway.
