I way prefer the Dark Eldar personally. It was between them and chaos when I first started the Table Top, and well, had I started a few years later I might have gone with Dark Eldar because hot damn they look good these days. I do however like the lightning fast raid style game play they allow for (in everything) and I like the idea of a doomed race holding on for one more day.
Its even worse when you think that they have to do bad things to people to live on that one extra day to hide, Dark Eldar are by far the most tragic factions imo, they just wanna live and now they are punished for having a baby boom and high sex drive lol
The reason Im with Eldar is that they seem to have the highest moral ground IMO. Yes we created Slaanesh, but as a result we are raised to be strictly forbidden to have any emotions or feelings. In fact our entire society is geared toward fixing the massive mistake we made. We're trying to progress. I don't see that happening in any other race. We don't torture, we don't have clunky and obnoxious armor, were the most intelligent of any other living race by far. Where humans live in an absurd dictatorship where thousands are killed just to keep electricity going through a skeleton, Eldar actually have a choice in what we do, yeah we have soldiers, but we also have cooks, bakers, blacksmiths, etc. We choose our own destiny. Yet GW INSISTS that we are the bad guys and that the imperium- the guys that sacrifice their children, exterminates entire planets "death star style" and blows each others heads off for "heresy" starves their civilians, makes children NOT go to school and straight to child labor - are the good guys in this.......um......WTF? you can't just imply that the imperium is so great and have them do stuff like that. Look at the story mode for battlefield gothic for example. You're captain suggests retreat so his brothers can survive, but intead of just saying "no" or "don't be a coward" NOPE we gotta order his execution! WTF? The whole reason people call retreats is because THEY WANT TO LIVE! Yet in the campaign it is frequently advertised that "imperial navy is best because imperial navy is best" In another part, you report of a chaos incursion to your higher command. They initially do not believe you so what do they do? Imperium- jerks at worst, mind blowing idiots at best. Orks-........actually when you take the other two factions into account orks don't seem that bad.......but still a constant drive to fighting isn't really that good......not to mention they aren't the brightest things around.... Tyranids- NO! Tau-space commies Dark Eldar- heartless bastards that take pride in torture. nekrons- only a few of them are anything but mindless drones.....that and the C'tan and that's why Im Eldar.
Tragic? I wouldn't use that word... maybe more, sad... They are so pathetic in their existence yet their arrogance leaves them unable to acknowledge the decrepit state they are in. They think they are the 'true Eldar' yet they are a shadow of their former selves. Though I would pity them, I wouldn't like them, they are non-repentant and would gladly doom their race if it gave them a minor benefit.
I fell into the 40K universe many, many years ago. I read all the lore (there wasn't much lore back then) and although the tales of the Emperor and the Hersey were compelling I really enjoyed reading about the enigmatic Eldar. And then I found out about the Harlequins. Then I saw this... ...And I was sold.
Are we talking about the same race that considers everyone else animals??The same race that would rather kill millions ,lets say humans,to save just a handfull of their own?
Well humans already kill billions of their own... so, I would say the Imperium kills more of themselves than Eldar do... And Eldar are not very susceptible to Chaos, Eldar don't get corrupted easily unlike humans. Plus Eldar are the arch-nemesis of the Necrons and Chaos, two of the most evil forces in the galaxy. They aren't as bad as the Imperium IMO as they will work with other races to fight a common enemy. Whereas the Imperium is far more xenophobic and fails to see the bigger picture. Also the Eldar are direct creations of the Old Ones, the main force of Order way back when.
