I fell in love with the Eldar back in 1989 when I was 10 years old, this is when I picked up my first citadel miniature (Eldar Firegale Knight) for Space Marine (which is now Epic 40k), and ive been a player and collector since then. I probly have some where in the region of 10k+ in points value of 40K Eldar, more if I were to dig through the loft and pull out all the old style minis, The Eldar have a tragic history, which is slowly getting more detailed with each edition that comes around and I really like the mythology of the Eldar
personally I like to look at the Eldar myths and apply them as a fundamental level to the Eldar race, For instance Khaine getting the Eldar people kicked out of heaven (due to isha's love for her children), this is very loose, but essentially I like to think of this as the Eldar coming from the place of Origin (The Warp) into real space, this also ties in with the Eldar race's deep connection with the Warp. This also has a loose tie in with the Eldar and the Old Ones, as in current edition the Eldar are described as allies of the Old Ones, not as there creation.
1. Has the tabletop game influenced your decision to play as the Eldar? I played TT since it's first incarnation. Sold up a few years ago, to help pay for my wedding! My largest collection was Eldar that had models from across the generations, having had such a long association they were the obvious choice. 2. How did you stumble upon the Eldar? I got a bunch of old metal Harlequins, Harlequin jetbikes, 1st gen Eldar miniatures given to me and built the collection and armies up from there. 3. What is their allure? They were my favourite to play because you had to think about what you were doing. Couldn't just rock up and do the same old (see SMs/Orks et al.) Also I wanted an anti-SM army and with the Dark Reapers, Starcannon, squads with power swords/fusion guns, they were the obvious choice to annihilate the ubiquitous SMs. Did a pretty good job of it too 4. What strategy/tactics do you think you can take from the table top to EC as it currently stands described? Thinking before doing. It's so Eldar, and it works. Small units to harass and irritate - am thinking Rangers/Vypers. Specialised teams to strike hard and fast. Speed is our weapon!
I'd like to take this back, I've been playing DoW1 again and the voices are growing on me. Although I still prefer the DoW2 ones.
I have a large Eldar army, it has always been my main Army and I am obsessed with them. I love so much about them and the way they were designed. One definite bonus is they do not come across as tree hugging pansies of the space variety, they have more of a psychic zen aspect that's just designed so well, that you would almost not even realize they are related to the medieval Elf. They have such a cool factor that many creators for SM have felt the need to appropriate many aspects from them.
Because if you know where to shop, the hobby isn't at all overpriced. I live in Australia who have the highest price point for GW miniatures in the world. If I can manage to find ways to pay a fraction of the price, i'd imagine anyone could - You really do just have to look around and find the right places. In other news, the twin Phantom Titans are finished... have to say they scrubbed up nicely! The full set of photos are here - http://wcwdb.blogspot.com.au/2015/02/twin-eldar-phantom-titans-ready-to-reap.html
I haven't played TT in a while, so I'm not putting myself down as obsessed exactly, but I definitely played a good deal when I was younger. And it's a huge appeal for me in EC! Factional diversity (and aesthetic appeal) were the two things PS2 was really lacking, and so I'm super psyched to see them implemented in the form of the Eldar. 1. 100%. The Eldar have some of the best synergy in the entire TT game, and that carries over into any genre, video games included. Each eldar class excels at one very specific thing and sucks at another very specific thing, with intermediate abilities in other fields, and so strategy with them is much more elegant than other armies (with the possible exception of tau, which have an interesting geometric mechanic). Plus hovertanks. Win. 2. I got into warhammer right at the start and the Eldar were an instant buy. The pointy coneheads were meh but DAT FALCON. I couldn't resist a tank that looked that cool. Then after I got into things properly I really got into the intricacies of their gameplay and the really nice opportunities for painting/unit conversion too. 3. Aesthetic appeal and brutal synergy. If you lose you lose hard, but they're unstoppable if you're careful. Embody the farseers! 4. They absolutely need to keep the specialization. If they generalize it's bad. But with that in mind, Eldar were not designed for independent play, so it is absolutely crucial that the tools exist to allow them to work in concert. Since we don't have jack-of-all-trades classes, battle plans require coordination, and if we don't have some kind of RTS overhead so our commanders can micro a little bit on the strategy end, things are going to be tough for the poor Eldar. So it'll take some coordinated effort from the devs to resolve.
