Some of them are very deadly and smart and lead chapters. Why not gives the dreadnoughts in some ways and make them powerful but have medium armor or make them have strong armor and mid level dmg
There was that other thread about *support* classes-as much I'd rather pick Apothecary than rely on newbie one to get things done,I wouldn't let someone unexperienced to drive limited unit(and I'd happily pass it to someone better than me)
How about this...not a perfect solution but one that mitigate favouritism or other forms of corruption in the selection process. The player needs to unlock the Dreadnought as an option availible to him, this would take some serious work in the accumulation of awards/seals/medals/acheivements/progressions over a lengthy gameplay experience, probably at least a couple of campaigns possibly several. Exactly how is debatable and while relevant not the key to my premise/concept. The Faction Counsel/Strike Force Leader decides that they will field Dreadnought units in the coming campaign. Be it at a specific time/s or place or a number of units during the campaign. And the Faction pays the cost of the spawn but FC/SFL has control over where the Dreadnought will be deployed in the campaign field. Now, when a player who has unlocked his Dreadnought usage option goes to his spawn choice page, the option to spawn as a Dreadnought is availible...however, the player must "apply" for the Dreadnought and though a Random Number Generator(RNG) the selectees are chosen. For example: 1)Player A wants to spawn as a Dreadnought, hes done his unlock progression so hes elegible, 2)the FC/SFL has authorised the use of 10 Dreadnoughts in the field, 3)his spawn option screen shows that 3 more Dreadnoughts are availible for his faction at this time in this campaign, 4)he clicks on Dreadnought and a RNG assigns him a number, if multiple people get the same result then further RNG decides who gets it, 5) he gets a Dreadnought and is deployed to an area chosen by the FC/SFL...or he doesnt get a Dreadnought and must spawn as something else as normal, 6)when Dreadnoughts are destroyed they go into a Cool Down(CD) timer before being availible to the faction again, and each time they are spawned the faction pays the cost in Req points(RP) or resources
That allows for a worthiness requirement to be a factor as a player must unlock his elegibility for a Dreadnought. It allows the FC/SFL to have control of how many and where Dreadnoughts are deployed. It allows even a RP poor player to achieve a Dreadnought since the faction is paying for the spawn costs. It allows anyone who qualifies and desires it an equal chance to be selected at any given time. And finally with a CD on the spawn it allows a Faction to benefit or suffer from FC/SFL deployment strategies, as the numbers of Dreadnoughts in the field at any one time changes due to circumstance.
Ok one question. What happens to the player using the dreadnought when his unit kills all the enemies in the AO and has to move on to the next battle? Does he stay as the dreadnought? Can he slowly walk to the next fight or can he be picked up by a vehicle from his unit?
There is already some providence in the lore for transport of Dreadnoughts, a thunderhawk transport can carry one in the place of 5 marines, there are also space marine landing craft which are designed to deploy and recover tanks and other heavy equipment.
Game needs Dreadnoughts! Every 40k has ever had them in?! Why cant EC devs make them? And get creative
Actually Devs have said they want to eliminate or at least minimise any AI units except for the AI NPC 'nid faction, they want anything running/rolling/stalking the battlefield thats player faction aligned being operated by a player, This thread was primarily discussing if dreadnoughts could be included and when they are included (since they probably will be at some point) how they could be implemented within the system as we understand it so far
I do not envy the Dev's position on this, balancing lore and game mechanics when it comes to things like Dreads and Terminators must be a nightmare. Though to keep on topic, I rather like the idea of a Dreadnought being based on tactical rating and efficiency. If your army group has that 'One guy' everyone knows as being completely and utterly bad ass it would be quite a sight for him to die then get the option to come back as a dreadnought. No idea how it'd be balanced but maybe he could permanently replace one of his characters with said dreadnought? Just has a cool down between logins on that character based on damage received, if he was destroyed/crippled and such?
