I'll be completely honest. I just heard about the switch from being openworld to some sort of instanced arena shooter. When I purchased my founders pack I was under the impression that an open world 40K is what I would be getting at launch. If this is no longer the case then I would want the cash I spent on a founders pack back. As I have no interest for that type of game when what I wanted was open world 40k game like I was led to believe at the start. Unfortunately it seems I wont be able to get a refund for my purchase so now I'm stuck with this.
Open world is still available but it will gradually opened up. Founders access is now in the summer not fall. So you will get your hands on play testing sooner. But it will be instances for founders access. If you want a refund contact the devs directly and you will get 100% of it back. They actually lose money giving your your refund because they pay all the costs and taxes to refund.
While EC Devs could call Daybreak on the phone and ask them for their tech they use in Planetside 2 it wouldn't get any good results since Daybreak wouldn't give their thing over to make a competitor. EC Devs are figuring out a way to make the tech they have access to do it the way we all want. This will take time, work, moneyz and plenty of bacon rubbing on the servers. Note: Do not rub bacon on your computer tech nor try to build computer tech out of bacon. You can however try to construct computer tech that functions as intended while also cooking bacon. The world will thank you should you succeed. Also some things Nathan Richardsson (Oveur; Senior Producer and cool guy with a mighty beard) has said before on it: Here and here. I found those 2 by searching keyword "Planetside" posted by "Oveur" and there were others.
When I purchased this game, they said it was going to be OPEN WORLD. So now, I will demand a refund. This game is now ruined.
Since I was gifted the game by a kindly forumgoer I don't feel as strongly about the matter as I might have done otherwise. I'll still play the game, but were I to be looking at spending my own money I would definitely hold off before buying anything at this point. I want to see the game do well but such huge shifts in direction do nothing for consumer confidence. Similar situations in the past have left me wondering if developers are going to fall short on other promised features, and they do in the majority of cases.
Oh thank's for linking that, That was JUST what I was wondering. Although he says "I know that Planteside 2 Is out right now, but its not big enough for us". I have to wonder, I know we are all hype (well some of us still) for this game, but just how big do they think its going to get? This is a rather niche game, And while I have faith its still going to turn out pretty good,I don't think for a second it's going to pull the kind of numbers that make PS2's servers seem "to small" I'm just saying, if they DID take the PS2 rout, and used the same server tech ect, they could avoid a lot of the ill will that was gained I think. After all, I have talked to a LOT of ps2 fan's that were just hoping for the next MMOFPS, and were super hype that this was going to be "it". I really worry that there going to "grand" with this, trying to make a game that's "EvE,PS2,ect" when really, all we wanted was a 40k open world shooter. I'm almost getting star citizen vibes from this
It was never going to work anyways. The scale they were so ambitious in wanting to make is well beyond the scale of a brand new team of devs. World War 2 online is the only game that has ever achieved that scale and it's been around for 14 years. It took a long time to get to the amount of content that game has in regards to combined arms. This game CAN get some level of open world, but not one continuous battlefield. Never going to happen unless they have some super secret software. If you expected the game to have a gigantic battlefield from the start, it was wishful thinking. Star Wars Battlefront will have 20v20, PLUS ai. That will be a state of the art game with a ton of resources behind it.
wish i had of know they decided not to go open world before i bought my founder pack. oh well call of duty set in warhammer 40k. it might hold my attention for a few weeks. elder and space marines vs chaos and greenskins to right that will be the only way to balance the the 32 vs 32.
its not call of duty, its more hero's and generals, which is basically a different form of battifiled
