Here's a really simple idea to make scopes more viable. Decrease zoom across the board (2x becomes 1.4x, etc) and then add a passive accuracy buff when hipfiring. Then, at least it'll be more usable without any kind on complex coding like adding toggable sights and whatnot. What do you guys think?
Nope, not to mention ranged fights at scope distance arent very efficient even if the scopes cam 6x zoom for you with damage drop offs, artificial innacuracy where rounds may not go exactly where you aim and that the ttk at distance make it very difficult to take down a target on these arena like maps. Id consider using a CQC red dot or something but not these scopes
Meanwhile as I purchased the umbra ferrox for $35 And got a scope attached to it as well as weapon mods that are outshone by a default bolter
Seeing as most of the gunplay is at medium range or closer and the damage drop-off kicks in shortly after medium range, I'd say no. This game doesn't do long range combat well. There aren't any open-air points anymore either like B on blackbolt v1 or C on Olipsis. Everything is indoors and cramped.
This. 2x one can be helpful on boltgun. Better ones, not really, unless you go full stalker bolter and stay back with melee friend protecting you.
The current scopes, as many have pointed out, are garbage. The chief problem is that zooming in is too unwieldy and risky when people can run up to you in seconds. A really great way to balance this is to do what a few IRL manufacturers do and either keep iron sights or just a red dot for closer fighting (on an offset or even a swing-down scope) and then flip up or tilt for the zoom. This way you can still engage at close range while benefiting from having the scope in the first place.
To be honest I never use it on the bolter, but the PG with a scope is quite nice, the spread reduction at the longer ranges helps in making sure just a few more shots hit, but its rare to have an enemy outside of fortress/blackbolt where its worth really having.
The day i use a scope in my boltgun will be the day i can also add a bayonet to it for full Sternguard
