I think a name is somewhat a given, for practical purposes.
  2. I think the account name is enough. It would enforce the idea that we're all just no-name soldiers in a planet-panning war. We can't all be heroes after all.

I would say a standard MMO naming system would be best. That being, individual character names, without any kind of unifying 'account tag'. I don't mind having an account tag as a private option for friends to stay in contact(Blizzard's Battletag system for instance), but I really don't think a Cryptic style system would be a good idea in this kind of game.

Whilst I personally thought being able to play a different faction on the same server was a bad idea in Planetside 2, when people did it without too much subtlety (e.g characters called BobNC, BobVS, BobTR) it resulted in some quite nasty abuse at times and/or teamkilling often ruining some fights for people completely uninvolved. Combine that with a game like EC where there will only be 1 server and anyone who wants to play more than one faction will potentially get a rather unpleasant experience because unfortunately there are some unpleasant people in every mmo.
  4. A system that intergrates with title's for characters. I.e. like above, no [Battle Brother] XVX D4RTHvaD0r_kek.
So you give your character a name.

    I'd be in favor of

    Account Name
    in-game character names.

    &

The ability to link your forum name with a character name!
For example. My forum name as you can see is indeed Stretch
and under my picture, It would be nice to show information about a character of mine like class, time played, rank etc

  6. Well there is certainly a system to link forum accounts with characters in game.

I remember the DoW times when many forums had people supporting small banners of their most played army and some stats.... good times...

Some 1 should make a thread for that idea

Yeah a few games have already done it. Some examples I can think of of the top of my head would be Wow and Aion

And feel free to make a thread you can give me credit at the top! :p
If you link me it in inbox I'll comment and expand more on what I meant :)

Yeah this post all makes sense to me, and what I would vote for were it an option. In game names (all of them) should be view-able on your profile as well. I have always liked to be able to pull peoples stats (mine are usually dismal) just to keep people honest so to speak.

Also, it adds validity to some people opinions/rants/ideas. If you have a guy with impressive stats and lots of time in game, to me their opinion is going to be of far more value to me than a guy with a few hours in game. Unless of course we are speaking of something pertaining to just starting out in the game, then that new guy could offer fresh perspective.

I would second that, it is very annoying when people get preachy or start talking down and they've only played a couple hours.

I dont like the system account name + char name. Just the char name should be enough, i dont fancy others to see how many chars and which are connected to my account, neither to the forum account nor to any other RL entity. It breaks immersion for me and the relative anonymity of the gamespace. The super-stupidest feature, imho, is when one of your char joins a clan, all your account's chars are automaticly in as well, and your account's online status is visible to the rest of the clan.
