Dire Avengers - This Is What They Need

Good point. TKing is a real problem as it is.

A Scorpion Chainsword is User S+1 and AP6, while a Chainsword would be User S. A Chainsword would at the very least have greater reach and range than a Combat Knife, if not also deal more damage. A Dire Avenger should have access to it so the Eldar can have a more balanced force, including 4 Ranged Classes(Avenger, Reaper, Dragon, Hawk) and 4 Melee Classes(Avenger, Banshee, Scorpion, Warlock).

Correct. In EC, certain weapons should receive boni to Strength in order to improve their DPS vs other weapons.
For example, both a Combat Knife and Chainsword are Strength User; however, giving the Chainsword S+1 improves its DPS.
Combat Knife(S4, AP-) TTK vs C/SM: 2.4-sec, 8 Basic Attacks, 0.3-sec Attack Speed
    Chainsword(S5, Ap-) TTK vs C/SM: 2.1-sec, 7 BAs 0.3-sec AS

    So for Eldar:
    Combat Knife(S3, AP-) TTK vs C/SM: 2.2-sec, 11 BAs, 0.2-sec AS
    Chainsword(S4, AP-) TTK vs C/SM: 2-sec, 8 BAs, 0.25-sec AS
TTK does not change much but the sword has greater range and its higher Strength helps with Blocking, which should replace clang, while the lower number of attacks needing to be landed overall makes the battle easier.

A Dire Avenger should have access to a Chainsword because it is a step-gap between Combat Knife and the Power Weapons that Exarchs get access to. Other Aspects are gaining access to Exarch-specific wargear so at the very least Avengers should be able to purchase some sort of melee upgrade.

It does seem a little silly, especially if the Eldar wants to tuck the gun against their shoulder and aim with their weapon. It might work if they had the second barrel on top but turned 90-degrees, giving it a vertical spread vs the original barrel's more horizontal one. The magazine would then hang out to the right side, pointing away from the Eldar and near the original mag for quick swapping of both.

By that same token, it does allow a group of Eldar to more effectively spray down a group of incoming targets.

Why does it need to be a Chainsword rather than a Sword?
  4. Zaeryn Zaeryn Master

Because it is more iconic and in the WH40K universe 'normal' swords are seen infrequently, with melee fighters using Chainswords, Power Swords or better.

Can we agree that playing dire avenger is boring chore rather than an exciting component of the race? I never feel effective and I would *always* rather be an invisible murder machine.

DA has always been my favorite class - in theory. It's supposed to be the most balanced in terms of melee and ranged in the Eldar army. I honestly would play nothing else (for a really long time) if the DAs Shuriken felt accurate and powerful in close range (as accurate as the Hawks Talon for example) and I could forgo my Shuriken Catapult for a Glaive.

What's really important to consider is that the Eldar will almost certainly never have the same pushing/staying power as SMs or Orks in a head on engagement 1v1. Combined with Warlocks, other classes, and flanking, the DA is actually pretty terrifying already.

What's the big problem is that comparing TTKs and clip sizes, a DA will just barely kill a SM (and lose to a CSM w/ MoN). Then the DA is forced to reload while a SM has almost 3/4s of its clip left. So not only are close ranged engagements a toss up, the DA can only kill one target at a time while tacticals can down half or even most of a squad.

Smart Bolt Pistol/Shuriken Catapult damage reduction (75%).

    Hotfix now.. sigh!!!

The ttk of the catapult is what kills playing them for me. If I get the jump as a warlock, scorpion, or hawk I am likely to win. In order to do anything as a dire avenger I need to outnumber someone. The whole "move, stop, shoot" paradigm is a ridiculous notion.

They need to drop it sooner than later and just give the dire avengers the mobile accuracy they need to succeed as more brittle combatants.

Also, why the fuck do they want the dire avengers to be so very hard to play?

There was a whole 6 days of almost normal SC - that was too OP. Now it will be useless for next 6 months.
