Yes, my post about threat generation and battlefield control to enable my teammates to kill the enemy and take objectives is doing my own thing. Also, I sometimes set up flanking positions or rushes so that my team can capitalize on overly aggressive players and overly defensive ones, just for myself. And when I really don't care about the team, I switch to support and lay down the heals and revives because there's not enough on our team. And when I want to screw over my team deliberately, I spawn with an anti-tank loadout to remove enemy armour. Because it's obvious you don't read long posts (and honestly, I can't blame you, I go on) let me summarize-The diresword has power as a mind game weapon and let's you herd the enemy. It won't get kills like you'll want, but it'll set up your teammates for kills, while you play for the objective. That's why you play a dire avenger with no avenger catapult- because fear is the best weapon.
Sorry, I meant Dark Reapers. EDIT - I just realized that this thread is about Dire Avengers, not Dark Reapers as I thought. Oh well
Scorpion Chainswords are for Striking Scorpions. Because Dire Avenger Exarchs use Power weapons and Direswords, advanced melee weapons, it is logical to assume that Dire Avengers would at least have some training with melee weapons(I.E. Chainsword) and thus could be given access to them in EC, similar to how Guardians have differing ranged/melee training and load-outs. After all, the DAs are essentially filling the Guardian role in EC. I'd love to see the DA with a Chainsword as it would provide the Eldar with a more balanced mix of classes(Avengers/Hawks/Reapers/Dragons for 4 ranged classes, Avengers/Banshees/Scorpions/Warlocks for 4 melee classes).
Just going by the fluff I've read the Chainsword is a Weapon used only by Scorpion Shrines and Autarchs that walked that path. Storm Guardians have access to the chainsword (but just called a close combat weapon, not actually with the special bonus to strength) because more than likely, in a previous path, that Guardian was a Striking Scorpion. To go with the fluff the Dire Avengers are trained in all bladed weapons. That includes Shuriken projectiles as bladed. I can see that, as customization becomes more apparent, there would be something available to Dire Avenger that will allow something similar to how a Chainsword works. I just hope it is not a Chainsword. That's just a personally opinion. In the TT an Exarch can have a Power weapon but doesn't specify the appearance of the weapon; it could be an axe or knitting needle but has the "power" rule. If it's purely a cosmetic reason to have a chainsword for a Dire Avenger then I'm sure an option would present itself at some stage. Again, personal preference, I'd be looking for a nice shiny blade for my DA. My favourite DA Exarch in my collection has the Power Weapon staff and Shimmershield combo. I would love to see this as an option in EC.
I wasn't sure were else to ask this but this place seemed like the right place since it's dire avenger related but what exactly is that item on their left shoulder? Is it some sort of tactical camera? Also what're the chances that ulthwé Dire Avengers will be branded as Black Guardians much how the other factions have wolf priests, sanquinary priest, longclaws etc?
I believe the shoulder attachment is a range finding sensor. Guardian weapons team had a similar thing. As to Black Guardians... Are they not just Guardians?
To my knowledge they're better trained than guardians but I don't see too much of a difference mechanically between guardians and dire avengers other than training, i just thought it'd be a nice touch is all, since the others are just different in name as well.
