In the last livestream, it was mentioned that you guys were working that weekend. This, coupled with the vague projected release date, leads me to believe you guys are in the dreaded Crunch-Time. Crunch-Time, for those that do not know, is the final stretch before release where everything has to be finished. No vacation time, no weekends, 14hr days, hygiene disappears, family is forgotten. Basically a very high pressure situation. Coupled with this debacle over the campaign map, and everyone shitting on your hard work, it can be very emotionally stressful, so I just wanna pitch in here for a second. I hada brother in software development. He went into Crunch-Time, and coupled with a bad family situation (which can often be caused by Crunch-Time), he ended up eating a bullet. Left behind 2 kids. These stressful situations are very common in software development, and suicide amongst the software community is talked about less than suicide among veterans. So don't let the past few days get you down. Go home, take a shower, hug your kids, eat some pizza, get laid, and come back to us fresh this week to tackle these problems. I'm still gonna criticize the shit out of this game, but that's just business, baby. And disregard this if you aren't in Crunch-Time. Get into Crunch-Time you friggin' slackers. What am I paying you for?
awesome post.. thanks for that Indeed, it is crunch time.. has been for a little while now... some of us have a reasonable workload, while some others practically live in the office. It is a difficult time, but we are a passionate team and love what we do. And we do read the forums, even though we don't always jump in. All feedback is good feedback in my opinion and we have tough skin .. so keep it coming.
Give whoever is working on Melee a hug for me. I believe in them. This is really one of the best melee systems in a shooter I have played, and I can't wait until it all gets ironed out.
yea, many times I have wanted to buy in cause the game is looking great and hella fun, but Tau is were my heart is and I don't want to spend time and or money on things that I will drop the instant Tau hits. As for stress in the workplace, here is my two cents, don't sweat the small @#!T, things can and do always spiral out of control but as long as its not over who ate the last strawberry sprinkle donut then *coughNathancough* the community will see it in your 40k game. Tell then keep up the good work, and you may have another fence sitter jumping in to play with all your toys
Indeed, there are still some taboo, depending where you live or the job position you have, about these issues. We don't really ever hear about the emotional impact a community can have on hard working people in a company. I worked in a call center once, customer service, getting a lot of hate for things that, though sometimes legitimate concerns, weren't always under my control. I have only respect for the team. I'm not the kind of person who gets overly criticizing, but I get that some do (and it isn't bad per say). I still think that the majority of people voice their concerns in a respectful manner but with, sometimes, most heated passion which can still lead to a dishearting feelings for devs sometimes. As always I thank the whole team for their hardwork, passion, open communication and honesty. I wish you the best of success with Eternal Crusade and I'll definetly be here in the years to come to support the game's development. I have a special thought for Brent and Nathan for that last weekend nuclear blast about the campaign and world map and for them being put on the front line. Special thanks for keeping your cool, keeping us updated, and keeping working under such circumstances. As always, I salute your dedication to the game and your player base and your crazyness in actually maintening such an open level of communication which I've never ever seen before. Thanks for being as invested as you are with the community, I guess you must be mad or masochists but I'm fine with that .
Please don´t kill yourselves in the crunch time! I read about someone that worked in fables and went trought a terrible time because of the rush. Don´t panic! You have my support even with the relase date that I don´t like a lot. If you can make the game I will support it, even if it comes the bitter end or you should take a hard move (like evolve did with stage 2). Remember this from a 20 years old fan of warhammer: You are making the game of my dreams.
