Well, unfortunately the game isn't going where you're going. I posted that for everyone to see how it's going to be.. plain and simple. How would I like it? A marine is a marine..period. No classes. Three skill trees that you can access and make custom builds. Anything from the armory based on war gear points allocation and what you've earned access to based on accolades in battle.
The way EC's pre-Alpha footage works supports Partisan's squad over yours as the Devastators only have Heavy Weapons and will, as already mentioned in the footage, only have 1 Heavy weapon at a time. This means that the Vet Sergeant as well as the Bolter users will have to be Tactical class Marines. Would people like to see Devastator class have access to a basic Bolter? Yes, since it's closer to the TT and the lore while also opening up options in customisation like sinking most of the loadout points into things like health and armour to make a more heavily fortified Marine (think Artificer Armour) at the cost of firepower. Are bH going to go with it? Who knows. Maybe, maybe not. At this point all we can do is speculate and discuss. They ay not even give Devs access to the Bolter so that there's a clear distinction between each class in terms of weapons and possible loadouts.
I haven't been following all the news things and other things that are coming out but if you say they game is coming out this way then link the source plz. Plus if the game is coming out that way it's bad. And everything you see in pre alpha is not somethings that are set in stone.
Why is it bad? Space Marine did it that way and it was fine. It gives clear, separate classes with no overlap or confusion. In fact, it might be better this way.
Except there was overlap. An assault could take a bolter if they took the true grit perk, and tacticals could take a chainsword (as well as there being a few generic perks across all classes). This didn't break the game, because it was a choice between flexibility and specialization
When could tacticals take a chain sword? Did I miss something these last couple years in SM? Tacticals could get a serrated combat blade... If you've been watching the twitches then you see they are clearly using a class based system that restricts the loadout. Could it change? Absolutely. As I already stated I want a freeform building system without classes... but that would probably extend BETA by a big amount to figure out how to balance it. I shouldn't need to link all the twitch videos for you to see how the death screen looks and how you choose your class.. etc... Believe it or not I'm more on your side of the fence than you seem to think. But I'm not in the drivers seat as far as the design goes so I just do my best to take what they are doing and make suggestions to help it make better sense.
True Perk was the only overlap, a very unwieldy one at that, since Tacticals didn't get a Chainsword. Titus had one in the campaign, but the Tacticals in multiplayer had a Combat Blade with a perk to make it a Serrated Combat Blade. Also, all perks were unique to the classes. There might be perks that have a similar function, but no perks were shared across all classes.
Hmm...I could have sworn tacticals could take a chainsword. Although serrated combat knife is still the same idea (sacrificing pure shooting fire for a bit of assault boost) I guess ignore my rambling
but all those will fit the devastator because they will be related to his weapon, he rolls differently, he moves at a different speed, he has different health, because he's a devastator and has a heavy bolter. THAT's why he has those set of skills and etc...If you want a normal bolter you ssssssssssssssssssshould go with a tactical marine where all his skills will suit THE WEAPON.
Except the skills and accessories for a Tactical would be different from a Devastator. A Devastator could have the potential for higher HP and armour regen speed ofset by the slower movement speed and dodge speed, where as a Tactical could have better RoF and reload on the Bolter as better mobility but lower HP.
