If I'm not mistaken, the devs said that the terrain will -propably- not be destructable, but buildings/different cover like rocks,walls etc) will be.
First of all "entirely destructible" is a pretty broad statement. I would settle for major installations/buildings, walls and perhaps some other larger features of the environment. That said, I think it depends greatly on the capabilities of the game-engine and also what is feasible considering the amount on players and the action going on in an area at any given time. It would of course be very cool, but again, I think it depends on what technical limitations the developers have to work with (game-engine, number of players, what rigs the game should be able to run on etc). /K
Partial destruction is fine, total is a horrible idea and would break the game. And given a choice between destruction and lots of players or npcs on screen at once I would always pick more players. That said destruction of some sort would bring a huge sense of war to the game and would be a big asset to the feel of the game
Gotta be straight with you all.... we worry that total destructibility would be way too heavy on the server and network, so we're not aiming for that. But all is not lost! You will likely see some very specific points of destructibility- such as static guns, gates, doors and accesses, and things of that sort.
since your level designer i have a suggestion if you are willing to read it, please dont add any working titans because that would be OP in the extreme, but please add a fallen titan that we have to fight over, that we can fight around, on, and in, and thanks for reading
Ideally, yes they'd be able to take a page out of Red Faction's book. Realistically, there's no way they could probably work it so I think settling for only the most basic destruction would be a fair deal.
