Without a need to make it a officially designated "Faction" per say, the Deathwatch Specialization could be a in game rank, title, or select grouping of skills or traits. Perhaps a elite skin, obtainable through a skill tree or unlocked achievement. As Astartes go, usually secondment is a sign of achievement and experience and is a great honor for the individual as well as the whole Chapter, and is a sign of rank. To become a Deathwatch Kill Marine will grant an expanded knowledge in weapons and tactics. I am curious what others thoughts on this topic are and am admittedly worried how this game is going to feature Astartes. Space Marine while good, was not perfect in it's execution, nor every aspect of what goes into being a Loyal Defender of the Imperium. The same is definitely true of the Ultra Marines movie, and the fanbase of this IP is very critical of that fact. Astartes might be transhuman but they are mortal, and thus have a specific ideology and philosophy centered on ritual and observance. They are in essence all knights and as such have Vows, Oaths, Promises, and Duties which go beyond "smash and grab" game play.
Why have a DW skin when you can give a 'veteran" sternguard/vanguard options it is pretty much the same thing...and if we allow for DW in EC some people will want GK skin and abilitie aswell... And not every LSM chapter is compromised of knights some of the chapters are just smash and grab types (carcharodon astra, flesh tearers ,blood drinkers, SW ,minotaurs, red scorpions..)
At least for the moment, I agree. Better have limited content at launch but things that are refined and work well.
Like I said I was not talking about making a Faction, and the Deathwatch are entirely different than the Grey Knights. The Deathwatch are made up of various chapters, the Grey Knights are basically a Chapter.
Grey Knights are a whole seperate faction. I agree with the others Deathwatch and Grey Knights are best left alone there is no point in having a watered down version of either just to get them in game
I think this goes down the line of the games story, say the tyranids are over populating the planet, deathwatch is called in to assist the marines and fend off the tyranids. If its a large amount of warp happenings, then grey knights. Alot of this stuff would be considered after release material, I wouldnt worry about it too much right now.
Well I know various Guilds are implementing a Deathwatch organization, which basically handles the idea nicely, however a skin or set of skills and abilities to compliment it would be very cool
