Kill Cam avoids camping, it's a great way to make a game more dynamic :D

You could have a Killcam without revealing where the killer is hiding/located.
it could just show their name and a model of their character? that way we get to see who killed us... but not where they are. Most mmo's have some form of character screen where you can see what you look like. Use this image as the killcam. All the SM you can see dont wear helmets but the guy who just killed you is wearing one. without knowing the location but knowing the appearance of the killer it can make it more personal as you might start hunting him/her down.
plus it would mean if you notice the guy who killed you is wearing/using something you havent seen before you might think about using it yourself.
  3. I would really recommend you don't waste your time on them, They're the bane of any kind of tactics.

  4. well thats a bit harsh to say - we might come up with something that is good or beneficial?! don't you think it should be at least tested before we just throw out the whole idea?
  5. Not to sound like a know it all but every single "tactical" shooter that attempted it was universally rejected by the community. Red Orchestra is a good example, casual mode shows you where you were shot from and EVERY server has it turned off.

Being able to see where that MG that is holding the defensive line is placed or where that enemy squad is moving up to basically kills tactics in those kinds of shooters as it gives you information you wouldn't have through your own merit (dying is not a merit).

  6. in either case - this is no normal shooter, this is also an MMO - I am not as bold as you are to say it will not work, though I am not to shy to admit it when we realize it does not!
It's not a huge amount of work to add it, and I think having a prototype, test it and learn from it, is better, than just reject it because it's bad in other types of games.
also, I said, kill/death/execution cam - that does not necessarily just mean showing who killed you from where, but might just mean a special sequence of showing how you die/are killed from a different perspective.

  7. By all means I think you should explore it as an option, I'm just providing my own experiences for your consideration. It doesn't have to be a normal shooter for tactics to be involved in the combat, ambushes and hidden emplacements are important universally regardless of the MMO factor.

I would love to see alternate perspectives or a special sequence as long as it does not reveal the enemy position or show the player anything they would not have seen if they were alive (like a perspective that shows a heavy weapons squad behind a wall preparing to target your tanks or something).

We look forward to seeing what you have in mind.

We know you guys listen to the community and want to make a game for the community so at the very least, we know that if we don't like it at all, that you will change it.

I'm sure you won't make something horrible from the start. :)
  9. that's the plan! we want to explore everything that other MMOs, Shooters, TPS, etc have to offer, and figure out with the community together, what of those systems make a better game and which won't.
If you e.g. look at Age of Conan and the Executions/Fatalities, something like that give a huge 'accomplishment' feeling... so let's see :)

Ok what if the dead player only got some kind of cam when he is being executed there fore the person who is doing the execution has chosen to risk their position to show off via execution.
