Let me answer your questions, Chaplain Valerius since you seem to be in such disbelief. I will convey this in the most plain and direct manner possible, so that even you can understand. 1) I judged the entire game of Retribution by it's campaign, and I'll do it again. The fact that you don't like that doesn't concern me in the slightest. I don't care if you don't think it's fair. I don't care if you think it's biased. My opinion on the game if formed solely out of points of view that only matter to me. There is no room for your opinions in my judgements of Retribution I am afraid. 2) The campaign not having bearing on the multiplayer isn't relevant to me. After playing the campaign, I didn't feel like playing the multiplayer. I need no stronger reason than this: I didn't feel like it. I'm motivated to do everything in regards to entertainment by "feeling" like I want to. If I don't feel like doing something, I will not do it. 3) I had a mission to get all of the Xbox 360 achievements for 40K related games. That was my objective. You can interpret that as you will. My motivations are my own. 4) The addition of the Imperial Guard isn't the issue of why I didn't want to try the Retribution multiplayer. As I said, I judged the entire Retribution game by the campaign. I didn't like it; therefore, I didn't even WANT to try the multiplayer because the singleplayer experience was so abysmal. Oh, and don't try to make a generic Call of Duty multiplayer vs. singleplayer argument if you're readying one. That won't work. Hopefully that clarifies things for you, Chaplain. I will now address Cody Riggs and answer his comments. 1) I am an achievement whore, and I am quite satisfied with my accomplishments. 2) Why did I even bother with DoW2? I didn't like DoW2 at first, it took... maybe 2 years for me warm up to the multiplayer. I did stay with DoW1, principally. 3) Changes to the multiplayer balance weren't relevant to my decision to not play the Retribution multiplayer. 4) The differences between DoW1 and DoW2 are gigantic. DoW2 plays like Company of Heroes while DoW1 plays more like a classic C&C or StarCraft game. Those 2 are incredibly different. Hopefully that answers your questions, Cody Riggs.
There's a relationship in strategy games that I play. Campaign experience has an influence on my activity in the game, overall. DoW1: Good campaign / played it a lot. DoW1WA: Average campaign / played it a bit. DoW1DC: Great campaign / played it the most. DoW1:SS: Terrible campaign / hardly played it all. DoW2: Near perfect campaign / Almost 600 hours of gameplay. DoW2CR: Good campaign / About 300 hours of gameplay. DoW2Ret: Terrible campaign / About 90 hours of gameplay. DoW2 has numbers since Steam records it. The original Dawn of War 2 is competitive for my favorite strategy game BECAUSE of the campaign experience, and I have been playing games since the Atari 2600. My game experience is lengthy.
Seriously? I'm sorry but I really disagree with a lot of your post. The mod has added so much and tweaked so much that the general consensus, even from the players on the highest rung of the ladders, agree that it's A LOT more balanced than retail. The mod team consistently tries to think additions through rather than just adding everything that comes to mind. Perhaps it's less "mod changed nothing" and more a point that you've not been meeting players who've been able to challenge your build to the point where you need to adapt?
What he said is absolutely true, for a closer perspective of these changes, you should watch some of Indrids casts on YouTube which showcase race wars and regular match ups on Elite and he explains in depth while commenting on the different wargear and tactics and usually does say when something was changed/removed/added from retail compared to Elite.
This is quite sad... I have follow Relic and their innovative gameplay since Homeworld, and hope that DOW 2 was the first of a new generation of RTS by improving the game in the sequel. So we stay with the quote "Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment!" RIP Relic <=[
That is called 'being different'. It is is non-comparable to DoW1 because the entire game design is different ^^
I think my more favorite missions are those where I fight the Tyrannids. It's fun going on a bug hunt. Specifically one's where I either I attack a Hive cluster and the boss for the area. I never liked the RP battles with giant bosses that had big health stats and special attacks. This is 40K, not Pokemon. ALthough a pokemon in 40K woudl be kick ass. I personally like my FC character, jsut wish I could customize him. Him and Avitas and Cyrus. My foundest memories were going after the Avatar of Khain and the Ork War Boss for the Terminator suits. More so when my FC did the iconic Hammer to the face sync kill. Multiplayer was never memorable. Just a rinse and repeat of Attack, lose 1 man outta 3 man squads, retreat, spend points to recharge, and repeat.
Seems like you have never been in a game in which seven Orbital Bombardments are used, with six of them being at the same time.
Like to replay DOW 1, DOW 2 and CR... in retribution just the multiplayer. In DOW 2 R multiplayer I go with Chaos and Eldar: Triplo heretics build into noise marines and havocs. Double warp spiders and double dire avendgers with warp throw... in elite
