Sure they can. Just most that don't do it aren't as succesful. Turns out a lot of people don't like super intense squad based cover management games. Doesn't mean they shouldn't exist but don't go expecting them to be massively popular and wide spread when they really only appeal to a smaller demographic.
Yeah, power nodes and requisition points. Wood, gold, whatever. All that stuff just feels like I am having to work to play the "game" of moving my little soldiers around and blowing stuff up. (I never ended up playing much multiplayer, so it might be more fun(?) in that setting having the ability to cripple the enemies economy. I guess then you have a Total War game though.
But think of all the cute plays you can pull off with those peons!Trapping the enemy between the gold mine, war hall and burrows you can cancel
The lack of ressource management delete the snowball effect of cautious build and fight decisions. Total War multiplayer is about grinding the opponent army until you broke one point of his line. This is neither something watchable for an audience nor really intense. Men of War is the other game that come to my mind that doesn't have ressource management, but this game is just all about the one with the bigger gun and nothing else, really.
Well heres the thing, the "economy" of the game is what forces you to play smartly. If you crush one of their precious expensive units, and ruin their economic flow, it gives a bit more of a "crippling blow" feel to the enemy than them just producing another (Unless their economy is good, but that means you are messing up.)
Dawn of War III looks pleasing enough to us. I shant have it declared heretekal based only on minor errors in trailer and "rainbows" in gameplay. Besides folks have been moaning for a new DoW and more of their precious Blood Ravens. They have it now!
Eh choosing units before hand and no base building or anything... Sounds like Command and Conquer 4... It is always good to know that no matter how bad you think DOWIII is there is still games that are just holy fuck... Let's take the base building out of the base building game...
