So one thing I'm curious about is how common this is in t he video game industry. Like, if I was following the filming/development of a movie, and I saw that the director had been swapped, then the producer, then a screenwriter had quit and a new one was brought on, it would quickly enter like "okay this is an issue" but I don't know how common members of the team leaving in games development is. The public image, if you'll excuse the terminology, is that the team that starts the game, especially upper level management, should be the ones who publish the game.
Layoffs is a big thing in this industry. I know of some folks who jump out before the game officially ships to avoid the downtime between jobs. It's an unfortunate reality. However this project is still a year or 2 away from completion - so it does make me question motives. Either way, he'll be missed.
Man... all of these staff members leaving recently.. it's disheartening. Good luck out there David, we'll miss you
Well I mean we've lost a lot of upper tier guys. It's one thing to see the ten digit midgets getting replaced, that happens, but I find it odd when a large chunk of the upper portions of the team are getting swapped out, and it's far more worrying because as a whole team leads provide vision and direction to a project. So while an individual artist may have a style, the overall art director would be the one coming up with the overall style of the game, and a different art director might have a different form they would want to take. It would seem logical that the same nature extends to all team leads.
It's how these projects go. The transparency on this project makes it seem that this only happens here, while it is quite routine for people to jump between projects etc.
Merci David, your work has been very much appreciated. Good luck in your future endeavors, we'll miss having you around.
