Darksouls In Eternal Crusade?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Rahmer, Oct 31, 2013.

  1. It wasn't "dirty work", it was their first attempt at a pc port, EVER. The reason why they didn't make a port in the first place was because they knew it wouldn't be up to snuff; they only made it after huge pressure from large youtubers such as TotalBiscuit and some petitions.

What you do with your money is up to you, of course, but I wouldn't call their work "dirty". That carries too many negative connotations of poor business practises. They tried their best. Yes, their best sucked, but it was an honest effort.

So for you Counter strike was just a dirty work, just something made by fans of Half-Life ? :p

  4. I will be honest, I prefer the combat of DS than that of SM, simply because SM felt very delayed (likely intentional due to how clunky one would think power armour would be like to fight in). While it was good and once you got used to the timing, it became something to enjoy and not a bad choice.

But DS seems like a far more superior choice for combat seeing how multiplayer battles were far more intense and pulse pumping than what I experienced in SM.

Go ahead, try to burn me, I am already a heretic at heart!
  5. It was a bad port but you're right it was their first attempt and it wasn't that bad. One patch fixed all the issues.

Your post made me very perturbed, but not in the ways you would expect. I completely agree with you saying that DS has a deeper more gratifying combat system then Space Marine. That said, the ENTIRE purpose of the Simple space marine combat system, is too make close combat SHORT. This means that the process needs to be Ultra simplistic. Luckily Space Marine implemented an extremely simplistic game of rock paper scissors combined with timing. Dark Souls combat system is great provided you are facing a single opponent and aren't getting shot at from 5 different angles at the same time. Context is of the utmost importance in regards to a close combat gameplay mechanic within a game where people have MACHINE GUNS.
  7. Dark Souls, how i hate thee.

As if they couldn't have hire some decent coders just for time of need, like those fans who made their jobs, or use a tier company to do their job in their place, like any other studio... Please.
Whatever was the pressure, they wouldn't have done it without being pretty sure they'll get more income than they spent, this is certainly the reason why they rushed it.

The dirty work of the devs who obviously did not know how to code for pc, not the fans who made devs job for free. If I'd bought this game : my money would have gone to whom in your opinion, fans ?
Tip : there is a trap in this question ^^

  9. Please no. Melee combat in SM was a one sided rape-train on the side of whatever Assault Marine or Raptor decided to land on your face. The 'interrupt' attacks were unpredictable and unreliable in MP, the hitboxing was totally screwy, and lag meant that you could be killed from ridiculous distances away by some lucky twit with a thunder hammer.

Dark Souls combat was balanced and skill based...well, more so than SM. It still had flaws that, by nature, wouldn't be portable to EC (backstab fishing, dark magic OP spam, etc) Also not being able to block in SM kind of sucked.

  10. Space Marines combat worked fine...in Single Player. In multiplayer, there's nothing skill based or, more importantly FUN IN THE SLIGHTEST about having a 'rock, paper, scissor' approach to combat. Assault with a Thunder Hammer? Dead. You can try rolling away, but the bloody awful hitbox detection means you're dead anyway, even a few meters away.

Close quarters in 40k is where stuff should get truly epic. The norm is squads firing at each other from range, flanking, manoeuvring etc etc. CQB is where that goes out of the window and you carve epic stories into the skull of your opponents with the business end of a combat knife. Not "lol, Tactical fighting assault, wht noobs."
