OP just doenst understand what kind of MMO this is. THere is only one similar MMO, and thats ps2. Sounds like this one will be different enough from ps2 to be engaging for a longer while, but even in ps2 current state, people have been playing it for a year now and a lot of them are not tired. I have played it for about 500 hours. Not much, but not really bored yet,
not trying to flame in any way or form, but they better not take notes for CoD or any of those generic shooters imo
I don't want to speak for someone else, but I think he was referring not to the specific gameplay, but more of why people feel happy to play those games for years and remain in the community. Some people have mentioned Counterstrike. Counterstrike has no real background or plot to advance, but people have been playing it for years and years. The core of the gameplay is enjoyable to them and stands on its own.
sure, i get that point. the game needs to be something that creates a buzz and people get to talk about it and all that, i´m all for that of course
I agree that the success of this game is going to be community based. It is the difference between a good game and a great game. I think that the clan/guild/chapter system should be heavily integrated into the core of the game rather than PS2s "it's there but not vital" approach. I think the war council is really going to help with this. Provided they can get it to work of course. If it could combine planetside style combat with an metagame that is properly done, a strong clan/guild system, and preventing stagnation through map manipulation/changes based on the actions of the players. E.g an initially imperial base is held for several hours by ork forces it visibly become orky until nothing is left of the original structure. This would allow successful invasions deep into enemy territory to feel more for filling. Or as suggested before, base modification/improvement by either players or the war council (in the way of NPC guards, turrets etc.).
i'm sure after 2 second the open beta in the forum start will pop up the topic: title: ETERNAL CRUSADE IS BORING "In this game you only shot with gun, kill people with melee weapon, supporting other player ,drive veicles. so it's boring and repetitive, this game will be the same thing over and over again so it's boring and i quit!"
Oh there will always be people like that. Always. And its best to ignore them. Its impossible to please everyone and nobody should try to do it
You won't need to wait till open beta, i bet we will see a post asking for a nerf for a entire faction a couple of days after closed beta start.
Heh yeah, lets just hope that with over 7000 people on the forums already (most of them being 40k fans and pretty decent in the brains department) that once the crowd comes in we'll be able to shout down the imbeciles. Stopping any stupid decisions by the devs because of a shouty minority on the forums.
I agree in principle, but provided its recognised that rivalry is generally healthiest and at its most constructive when its between guilds from opposing sides. Its generally at its greatest risk of turning poisonous when it forms between guilds within a forcibly allied faction - there you have to be creative with game design to make sure you don't have deconstructive relationships forming between one or two influential groups and the overwhelming majority of players who are in neither. I should also add, I don't see any reason in principle why the factions within the races can't serve as an 'overguild' that means achieving faction-level objectives carry a shared benefit to everyone in the same faction. With a similar effect at the overall level, where achieving the objectives of the race carries a benefit to everyone in all factions.
