Most of what I played for in the beginning was Community, but as people left I had nothing else to play for, sorry if that seems shallow, maybe I should have said something about that in the post. In multi player games I want to play with other people I'm not a lone wolf when there is so much awesome team work that's possible, when I play in a multi player game by my self I find It boring and thus to clarify why I stoped 60 some hours after completing my last unlock. Another reason why I would like to know what level of the "allies" matrix will be used in EC as I seen it even loyalist space marines from different chapters are only "allies of convenience", for both PvE as well as any Joint faction attacks on bases if that ever happens. More people I have the opportunity to play with, the more friends I can make and the more content that I will digest. If its like Auto assault and every one only ever plays one faction, then I will still play the faction I love but mostly will have to play a faction I don't like, just to play with people, and then I have to find and manufacture more reasons to play said faction, one of which will be unlocks.
That's a much better reason to play. I'm the same way as I hate playing by myself. Would have made things a lot clearer in your post. I'm an 11 year WoW player and I've played mostly alone since late cataclysm so about 3 years and its one of the main reasons I quit. I can't play a game with terrible human beings no matter how fun it is.
@Rasako Yea If I cant find new people to play with then I stop to. Yea I got board and lonely playing WoW years ago, so now I just play it for a month or so after new content is launched then put it back on the shelf, but that's 7-ish years of playing the same MMO, no matter what all games get old, or something new and better comes along.
I loved Auto Assault, too bad it went away like Tabula Rasa. Both had their problems for sure but I miss them both. As far as longevity goes, I tend to play multiple games. I currently play TOR, ESO, Triad Wars, Space Hulk: Ascension, Space Marine, Ark Evolved, and occasionally hit up Mordheim, Brink, Blood Bowl and Civ. Civ I have to play only once in a while or it will just suck me in. So for longevity, I think variety is the answer for me. I have other games I also cycle in and out. What I am looking forward to are Star Citizen, the new Deus Ex, the new Hitman, The Division, and obviously EC. Personally what I have seen so far in EC, I am certain I will play it for a good two years anyway, and probably more. I have been playing Elder Scrolls games since the 90's and although there have been different games, and quite large especially Daggerfall and ESO, I really like the lore. 40K has tons of lore, and I have been playing the TT game since '89. I have a pretty keen sense I am not going to get bored with the game. As long as it doesn't have technical issues that are game breaking, I am sure it will be around for years. Hell, I played SWG up almost to the very end.
Im currently playing, dirty bomb (cause im cheap its FTP) Guild wars2 and path of exile( once again cause im cheap) StarCitizen and Wrold of Tanks rarely, and its not that I don't have money, im just paying of my Truck(down 6k in 6 months so paid off in 8 more is NICE) and getting more Tau models at nearly $50 a pop from forge world for XV9s. If EC launched and day one they had a "Tau Scout force" DLC(that later becomes the full Tau pack) that gave us just Pathfinders/piranhas-tetras and the 9 different drone options, no base of operations just minor task force that pops up on a random spot on the map, id drop $200 even if I could not play full Tau for a year after launch, sure the Tau content would be tiny almost nothing, and I would play other factions both to make friends and to play with there toys, but that "buy in" my hopes are locked on like a laser guided smart missile, and of course eB makes some early coin, oh and by "buying me in" they now have a consumer that will be along for the ride, not like star citizen where im just waiting for it to get done as they have set some STUPID high goals I don't have faith it will deliver sadly.
That's the thing though. Games don't get old unless there's just no longer any fun to be had there. We still have LAN parties for warcraft 3 in my house and that game is coming up on 15 years old. The quality of WoW has just drastically plummeted and it has changed to fit a different audience (An audience of sociopaths who hate interacting with other people and want to see humanity drown in its own blood, although that's more a cultural shift because we see that everywhere on the internet now). I am a person who could literally play one game my entire life if it was good enough and had the replay value which is why I've always been very picky with my games and don't end up purchasing many games because I greatly enjoy the games I have.
@Rasako , Yea when you look at WoW, and then look at GW2 just showing off the emotes will tell you a lot about the target audience, If I found a game that I could play "forever" it have to be a MMO, True RPG were stats are based on your choices not what armor bonuses give you, think more D&D less WOW/GW.....every damn MMO RPG that has gear based stats. Id have to feel like one character CANT do it all, that by "maxing" out one character means that I don't also have access to every other class to, like the newest MMO SkyForge sure its fun but limited. Im a Fan of shooters, but they don't always make for a good "MMO" APB reloaded, would be a good FPS MMO if it wasn't RIDDLE with hacks, bots, and other wise racist little kids,(If I ever have a kid an he/she drops the N-bomb at school he/she is getting a "legal" beating with in a inch of his/her life). AS I was saying, the MMO RPG in games now a days are more focused on a gear grind form of power scaling, not a player with feats, skills, and stats, like the old D&D 3.5, sure there are magical items, but there RARE or crafted by the character or they save up a truck load of money and buy it. In D&D games I run the loot will match the CR of the fight as well as if its a item that the enemy could use they would be during the fight so I roll loot BEFORE the encounter to see if its some thing they could use against the adventurers. Also another thing that would have to be in a MMO for me to play it "forever" is Race, size, and even gender MATTER, say your a human male and you are locked in Hand to Hand with a Raptor, "suck to be you right", yea now give that raptor more anthropomorphic (human characteristics) sure the fight maybe more fair physically but now the raptorman has knowledge of H2H not just basic instincts, now say that the raptor people are a lot like lions the female dose all the hard work the male is just there to eat, mate, and fight other males, that should give a bonus to the female of that race class, over that of the male. Same thing man fights Polar bear.....that was some tasty man flesh, even if you toulk the human weight and the polar bear weight and averaged it out, that PolarMan/woman would be till deep into 500lb of muscle, no way a 180 man could fight in H2H with a moster like that. This would also have to apply to weapons they use, in D&D 3.5 there is a size class for a weapon and one handed or two handed, a one handed sword for a normal size person is a two handed sword for smaller races(look at the damage exchanges for size if you don't believe me) so that same PolarMan/woman could weald a weapon at least 2-3 times the size of any weapon a human could use at all with much greater potential damage, with the same potentially speed and accuracy, given skill and training obviously, were the trade off now means the Polarman/woman have claws and weak eye sight the use of ranged weapons would be nearly impossible. For a game to have endless playability, not only should race, size, gender play into it but the characters grow old, in some cases trading strength for wisdom and skills, NEVER assume that just cause some one is OLD they cant kick ass, there years have given them much knowledge. Growing old also means they could have descendants, that could have some of the skills of both parents would mean that replayability is indefinite. And lastly to have a truly never ending world to explore, sadly this can not be done at our current technology, the level of real world algorithms needed to program all the interactions with just basic life in our world would be on the order of 100's of petabytes needed and that's just to make "most notable" bugs and animals act and react around/an to interact with player input. Now stack on even a meager 4 classes Warrior(melee fighter) Archer(yep) aspirant (or career specialist like thief) and a caster( healer, necromancy, elementalist, ect, ect... all the same class but have to choose one focus to maximize or be a jack of all trades at weaker power). An 8 races Human, elf(light dark similar stats), ork, ogre, hafling, gnome, and two beast races warm blooded and cold blooded(all adjustments that are made to apperance are NOT vestigial you want to be a cold blooded snake man and you go into a environment to hot or to cold you could DIE as well as snakes don't have a track record for being fast so that snake lower body means reduced movement, even if the trade off is better footing, climber, swimmer & cant be tripped) ALL physical appearance options matter, want a fat guy no loss of stats, you want a ripped guy, +1 to strength and endurance. My definition of a game that I could play forever would be impossible today and maybe possible in 20 years, as for the Eternal crusade game, I can expect to get roughly 2 years of game play out of it, the 40k universe is large, but there is already guidelines drawn in the sand. I cant vary well play as a Tau earth cast XV8 Pilot, who specialized in, tactical MOUT, an small/mixed unit tactics, who uses a multi tracker/target lock hybrid system of his own making to enhance a Multi-spectrum sensor suit and ties all that through a Command and control node to control his personal army of 12 drones now can I?(even though I have this character modeled and sitting on my PC speaker right now) Ergo, if I play by my self 6months maybe, if I can play with friends 2 years potentially, but the EC game is not big enough, not enough freedom, not enough personalization.
