I have no doubt that this will create a bunch of controversy, but I'd like to see some DOT's in the game - created by certain weapons (Flamethrowers, Poisoned Weapons, Monofiliament Weapons), abilities (Nurgle's Rot), or classes (Pyskers). It would seem like EZ mode for some perhaps, but then there are inherent balancing effects for each DOT above: Flamers are an assault weapon, Monofiliament Weapons would basically continuously add stacks of damage amplification (rewarding high accuracy players), and Nurgle's Rot is an Aura on models who are generally very slow. Thoughts? Ideas? Edit: Tzeentch's Curse was my favorite DOT of all time.... turning enemies into living weapons is just downright evil and fitting of a DOT.
Brent already semi-confirmed DoT's for the psykers of Chaos aligned to Nurgle: "I think you can probably expect the god-specific powers to work similarly to how you describe. Tzeentch blasts would be more direct, Nurgle doing damage over time, and Slaanesh probably including some other nasty effect along with the damage." Also DoTs will be at a disadvantage in a medium TTK, speedy shooter. They excel well in other games cause the metagame allows for a long life of the DoT caster through allot of dmg mitigation. They are built as such in many games whilst the direct DPS classes are usually easier to kill. There also wont be tab-targeting so the majority of it will be relegated to AoE pools or short range cones of fire. So i personally dont see DoT's being an issue in EC as they are in other MMOs, too many factors working against them.
Well, the main uses for DoTs in a shooter are suppression and linebreaking. Shooter DoTs are generally designed to be fatal rather than annoying: if you get one stuck on you, you need to find a medic NOW or you're boned. Someone who has a DoT on them and is hunting for a medic is obviously not manning their position and shooting at your friends. This combined with their ease of application (they're generally large-AoE or spray weapons) makes them extremely effective blob-breakers in the absence of medics. The flipside of course is that medics hard-counter them. A good medic or team of medics can rapidly counter-heal or outright erase DoT stacks and keep their team in the fight.
DoT is what Nurgle's all about man, it's pretty much a solid yes unless something changes drastically. It serves a purpose, it's not OP when implemented correctly and we have many examples to draw from. Pretty much a set deal
I don't think dot should last too long, max around 5 seconds, because logically, space marine power armor shouldn't even catch on fire. The same with the plague, if we know our lore.
How in the world did you come to the conclusion that it is lore abiding for a rampaging plague to last 5 seconds?
If you keep with the lore then the flamers would have to have a dot component since it sticks to you and continues burning. Any ideas how long they will burn though? Also should terrain continue to burn after being hit?
Would be good, remember that even if the ceramite might not burn the flame sticks like you said on the armor and boils the man in his shell.
For one thing, space marine power armor was designed to be immune to disease, fire and even protect them underwater. I can see orks getting ass raped by it, but SM and CSM shouldn't be harmed at all really.
