I think reading up on FF 14 history would be a good thing. While they are multi-platform (it exists on multiple platforms), they are not cross-platform (can play against people on all other platforms). There is limited cross-platform but there are tons of regional servers, as well as platform servers, some of which are cross-platform. So you can do PC-Sony, or PC-Microsoft, as technical that's allowed per policy. But you can not under any circumstances mix Sony and Microsoft Consoles. There are some simplifications, negotiations and bending of rules (ie WoT as F2P on 360) but even my tongue would get me anywhere, despite it's potency.
I think if they make this game cross platform multiplayer, the system requirements would rise up even more because of the incopetence of Microsoft and Sony or their money hungry marketing system. Always the console wars.
It was always a matter of if Microsoft and Sony were willing to put aside the console wars and allow bE to make a cross-platform server for the game. So, it was never a probable outcome. They do still intend to release on all platforms.
Other thing are the specs. They are so damn high these days, and it really stinks and reminds me of the "next-gen" era of these consoles, because when they came out, system requirements really rised up, and look what do we have here. Its all about the stupid marketing. Consoles were done cheaply, they cant read most of the ripped files. Then companies make games for these cheaply made consoles and hire some low level company to port the game on PC... (see Batman Arkham Knight) just for money. Evil of the consoles is sometimes worse then Slaneesh. No, not even kidding, Slaanesh is worse. In the end you can see, that Microsoft and Sony are on the same page when it comes to "gaming industry"

You're somewhat right. FF14 is Only on PC master Race and Sony ps3 /PS4 platforms. There isn't a Microsoft version. There are suggested region servers but all servers are open and cross play with any platform can be had. What do you mean by limited cross platform ? There's only PC and Sony with full cross play support. I'm uncertain about platform exclusive servers but even then that would be optional. Cross platform, or total failure! Because those are the only two options, right? Every game ever that has not had cross-platform has been a total failure. Yup. Every single one. Never mind that FPS games are more lag sensitive than MMOs. We'll also conveniently ignore that FFXIV -still- suggests a server in Montreal to EU players, and hasn't managed to put a server in Europe, for "reasons". Can't imagine what those reasons are, since our good friend OP ensures us this stuff is really easy. How many threads in the line of "Do X or this game will suck!" is that in the last week now? People really don't know how to make thread titles that doesn't automatically make enemies out of people.
