Hey Patrick, just a thought here, wondering if you had considered it. DUST 514 is a PS3 game that is connected to EVE Online, which is on the PC. As far as I know, that's one of the only examples of "cross-play" in video games today. CCP, EVE's developers, said they had considered doing a similar deal with Microsoft and the Xbox, and even had a working build, but that Microsoft would not tolerate their system being synced with Sony's. I'm sure people would love to tell me why that is. Anyways, I'm aware you guys are doing something similar, in that at the moment you're adamant about not splitting the game's playerbase into different sections based on their console. I believe that means, if Sony/Microsoft/Both won't play nice with the PC crowd or each other, you're going to cut them loose. And I get that. My point is just that you aren't the first company to do so, and I wanted to salute you for taking a stand and wagging your finger at the big console boys. My other point is that, right now, CCP is working with the balance between Keyboard/Mouse and the Playstation's Dualshock 3, both of which are supported on DUST 514. I play DUST mainly with the DS3, but I know people who utilize the KB/M, and they claim there's a difference in skill between both control schemes. I honestly have no idea. I just thought, as a developer looking to do something similar, maybe you could reach out to CCP, or at least have a look-see at DUST to see how they're doing it. I'm sure it couldn't hurt.
Actually, it was CCP who cut the deal with Microsoft due to restrictions concerning XBox Live, as you cannot be as anonymous as with PSN, which is a large factor in EVE. CCP might have been actually fearing for the lives of some part of the community. IMO you just have a better feeling with KB/M, but as stated by Patrick above, it might not be that important as in other games, say CoD or BF.
Was that the reason for it? I just know CCP said Microsoft wouldn't be on the same server as Playstation. I never paid attention to why, probably because half of the given reasons amounted to "Lol PSN shit loooooooooooooooooool"
well Dust gameplay is not exactly what we aim for, and we don't want to combine 2 games like they did - we aim for actually having xbox, ps3 and pc players on the same server! but there is a lot obstacles to get rid of first, and that is not even including the policies of microsoft and sony, which I honestly don't know much about - this has to do with politics afaik. anyway, if we can do it, you guys will be the first to know - and the plan is to have this!!!
