Would anyone like to see cross faction proximity chat?
Proximity Chat: Voice chat that is only audible to players near you in a certain bubble radius that usually spans from 5 meters - 20 meters in most games. Sometimes they can even have special voice modulators or volume culling depending on distance between the listener and the speaker.

Orky definition: Close = Loud voice. Far = Quiet voice.

I personally would like to see it mainly because I'm going to be main'ing as Orks. And like the Orks in the game Space Marine, I'm going to be yellin out a bunch of Orky taunts:
    "I see Spayce Mahreayns approachin!"
    "Spayce Mahreayns!"
    "Someone go get da boss!"
"Come out and play spayce mahreen!"
    "Where ya hoiddin Spayce Mahreayn!?"
    "Spayce Mahreens!"
    "Time t'Die Spayce Mahreayn!"
"Does dis smellw funny to you?"
"Was dat supposed to hurt, Spayce Mahreayn!?"
"Stand stillw! I'vez gots to have those shiny bits!"
"Come taste a bit of me flash, spayce mahreayn!"
    Etc.
-- Every time I fight those tin canned galoots. I mean who doesn't like acting like a brutish cockney british thug while wailing at a space marines face with a choppa?

Inb4 people who point out; "Oh my! This person on the opposing team is giving me lip! I am getting angry at his attitude!"
Counter argument: There's a mute button.

I said no, but I meant maybe. If you heard snippits of a foreign language that you couldn't really understand I would be fine with it. Orks speak a different language, which the game designers 'translate' to soccer hooligan for the benefit of the reader. Same with Eldar. Only the SM and CSM would inherently understand each other.

Could even go the old EQ route that (Player Name) says something in a language you don't understand)...

That sound pretty complex for a 3rd person shooter. I could imagine that in a full fledged RPG but sounds a bit over the top for this game. Integrating language banks for each faction while keeping the vocabulary lore accurate:confused:.
  4. Sure why not, as long as you can mute it in general, I see no problem. But I guess I would use the mute option, because while it would be very nice to hear other players like the OP for added immersion and fun, I think we will have way more players that will use it just to insult you (and not in an immersive way :D)
  5. Well the TT has introduced Allies, Taunts & Challenges.

So it would be nice to Taunt an opponent into a Challenge (maybe distract his troops).

Also if you're allying yourself with another Sub-Faction, or even Faction you need to be able to communicate with them, even if it's only between NCO's and/or Officers.

I think you'd be hearing a lot less roleplaying taunts and a lot more 13 year old squeakers calling you every racial, gender and orientation based slur they can think of. There is no honor among the f2p crowd.

Pretty sure the only reason PS2 avoided this feature was to prevent cross-faction epithet harassment. Some will say that doesn't matter, but I'd rather not have my entire EC experience feel like a CoD lobby, and I'm not sure what the benefits would be if only a minuscule fraction of the players would ever use it for roleplaying. It seems to me that automated battlecries, like the Chivalry scream-your-head-off button, are a more appropriate solution.

I agree. I think the it would sort of take you out of the game hearing some random ork spewing random hateful slurs. I think the generic battle cries would work better

Yeah I would much rather have M&B type warcries where you yell out a specific cry. honestly no one in their right mind would want 12 yr olds screaming what they "did" to your mother last night.
  10. I see war cries and other similar emotes with associated voice overs as being acceptable. No direction communication between enemy players beyond that. It opens the door to the possibility of extremely negative, nasty back and forth chatter along with the possibility of making spying and cross faction griefing even easier and more prevalent.

There's also the possibility of enemies spamming and destroying your faction's chat channels along with making local chat impossible.
