I really want to go and make some khorne cultilists based on these bits of art, I thought mabye fire warriors bits for the giant pads and IG bits and greenstuff and chaos bits.

Thing is I have never done anything like this and I would love the help and advice on how about I should go and make these guys as they look awesome.
What should I use as base model?
    What bitz should I use?
Where should I apply the green stuff?

I am a noob, but at the same time I have the patients and love modeling.

Wouldn't what everyone be suggesting be more Lost and the Damned rather than Cultists?
  4. I'm new to 40K modeling, so there's the disclaimer.

I've recently started a World Eaters themed Chaos Army, and I've been collecting WE and Khorne bits for a while now. I intend on having some cultists, and/or perhaps a renegade IG army as Allies.

I've done quite a bit of inquiring on various forums, as well as surfing hundreds of pics of painted units on the web. I've also searched Ebay under Warhammer Mutants, Warhammer Chaos, Warhammer Fantasy Chaos, ect. Youtube is a good source of inspiration as well, look under 40K Chaos Cultists or Chaos Renegades.

You can also search Ebay for "Khorne bits" and they usually have banners, Khorne icons and such. You can also purchase the Chaos and Khorne brass etchings from Forge World, which have tiny Chaos and Khornate icons you can put on shoulders, helmets, ect.

As far as the actual troops, depends if you want a more standard military organization that went rogue look, or a mutated henchmen look. I have the Dark Vengeance kit, but I really don't like the look of half of the cultists, and won't be using them.

If you're going with the feral or mutated madman look there are a lot of units from Games Workshops Warhammer Fantasy miniatures. Marauders come to mind. You can mix and match body parts with Fantasy mini's and 40K minis. Ebay's your best bet because you dont have to buy then entire unit, just the heads, arms, torso's, weapons you want.

I want to go with a more "military unit gone renegade" look. I'm not a big fan of the Chaos Nurgle or mutant look, so I've been collecting various Cadian IG bits, along with some of the Forge World Conversions., in addition to the alternative units I've listed below. Death Korps of Krieg might work if you like the military look, Forge World DKOK are amazing. I have started purchasing some here and there along with a Leman Russ tank, but they're staying Loyalist and wont be built/painted until I have enough units to start working a Loyalist DKOK army.

Here's some alternative units that i've purchased.

I picked up these Inquisition and Mechanicus units I'm going to convert to Cultist or Renegade IG HQ. Most dont have too much iconography to cover up or convert. A snip here or there, or a little shaving with an exacto knife, then some Khorne Icons over the area, skulls or human heads hanging from their waist, Chaos Axe or axe head to replace a sword or Mechanicus weapon, along with some spikey bits, then a Chaos color scheme, well that's my plan.

    Step 1: Buy these.
    Step 2: Buy these.
Step 3: Ensure you have enough round slotless bases.
Step 4: Slap them together, use paint and bits to make them look more chaos-like.
    Step 5: For Chaos!

Do note that the Catachans go per 10 and the Marauders per 16. If you get 2 boxes of Marauders and 3 boxes of Catachans you have a good number of them. Get a trio of Heavy Weapons teams and two Command boxes and you a solid core to work with. Do note that this means that half your dudes will like like Viking Rambo and the other half looks like they escaped from Fist of the North Star.
