As others have said, the vehicles being offered aren't exactly powerful. It's small, two player fast transport with guns. It's like saying Firefall is P2W because founders got a meh bike and free players have to unlock it in the game. Now, if they were offering tanks, or larger transports, or even a Land Speeder, I would understand a sort of P2W idea being there. But Assault Bikes and the others are pretty weak as far as 40k vehicles go. Yeah, you'll have an advantage in infantry on infantry engagements as long as you can avoid heavy weapons and general weapons-fire, but other than that they're mostly just going to be used to get from one war-zone to another quickly.
Yes, the foudnervehicle concern has come up, but then it was clarified to everyones statisfaction. There won't be any storevehicels that fullfill different roles on the battlefield then the ones you get ingame.
I see it like this: even though the devs are swearing up and down that the game won't be P2W, ALL devs say that so that doesn't mean much. There will be no good way to assess if the game will really be P2W until it comes out and we can see it for ourselves. Which is why I am not pre-ordering even though I have a strong intention to buy the game after release, so long as I don't see any nasty surprises. For those who did pre-order though, the early access module will be an important test. If the early access module is not P2W, there is hope the game may keep its promise. If it is, unfortunately, it is exceedingly rare for P2W mechanics to be eliminated once they have taken root. So wait. Watch. Don't try to pressure skeptical people into buying in, because honestly waiting for post release usually is the smart move.
It was stated on a stream and recorded, coming from their Project Leader himself, you can't get more officially than that.
First- 4chan is a cesspool, you wouldn't catch me having a serious discussion there in a million years. Second- anyone who is legitimately curious can simply come here to the website and discover the truth. Third- Haterz gonna hate, regardless of how many screenshots or developer quotes you show them. Conclusion- I am going to let the game speak for itself, which will really pick up some momentum once we have a playable module, so, very soon. T
I don't think that directing them to come to this site would be very reassuring to most of the /v/ guys. The main page is a mess of obfuscation that looks very similar in structure to Mechwarrior and PS2, and I don't blame them for being frustrated by a lack of an official post with information about earning RTP or having the founders vehicle be attainable in game. And if they come to the forums, well, let's be honest, there's a substantial crowd of people here whose opinion is "oh, well as long as the founder's bike is balanced, it's no big deal". That is the absolute last thing that's going to reassure a P2W skeptic, or just a skeptic of EC in general. Approval of the purchased "sidegrades" concept may have had a strong backing here on the dedicated forums, but in the rest of the gaming world, people who think that kind of thing is OK are definitely a minority. Most folks see purchase-only gameplay features as being despicable in and of itself, and while imbalanced PtW isn't a guarantee of the system, it is at least strongly inferred if even the slightest thing goes wrong with the founders item balancing process. As long as the devs allow even a hint of the old purchase-sidegrades vypers-for-founders-only system, this concern is never going to go away. I'm finding it harder and harder to defend EC these days, because time is stretching on and there still isn't a public post going over their changes in business philosophy, whatever those are. Telling people to watch a 50 minute livestream where it got mentioned all of one time by a director known for his inconsistency on details is not going to change anyone's thoughts on the matter.
I went to the 4chan thread to type something, read a few replies and just closed it. Lots of people crying about P2W, Pay to grind some guy even said EC was a F2P game. So a lot of people there haven't done basic research. More over, no one can say, with a few weeks/months before even first wave alpha access, if the game is P2W or not. However, all the evidence points towards it not being. A lot of the issues comes from the fact people aren't researching. They're looking in the RTP store and saying "Well that's in a cash shop, hence I won't be able to get it without money"; they aren't finding where it says that they're simply cosmetics or like that power axe being better at blocking but worse at attacking (I think) and those sorts of things. If someone said the game was P2W now, I'd just tell them to try the orks out when it's released. That's the best way t0 deal with it imho; stops all this stupid speculation about a game that won't be out fully for atleast a year.
