Hello! So I've read up on a lot of stuff about this game, but I'm still confused. I am mostly a solo gamer. I don't really have people to play with online as I don't have much time. However, this game has gotten me interested. From all the videos, it looks like they took the engine from Space Marine, and tweaked it a bit. That's awesome, I loved the Space Marine game. Again, I mostly played solo, but I did play some online when I could find matches and had a blast. So basically this "Founder Pack" is like a preorder, where I am giving you my money to purchase the game, correct? There are different amounts where paying more will give you more in game currency to buy things in the game shop. Am I right so far? What I don't understand is that there are going to be microtransactions in this game. To me, if you pay full price for a video game, they shouldn't be trying to nickel and dime you for more! It just seems very unfair to me. I know a lot of online multiplayer games like Warcraft have a monthly fee or something. That I can understand, because at least they aren't holding anything back from a player that can't pay for some exclusive item. It really rubs me the wrong way, and I really don't want to play it just because there are microtransactions. However I'm willing to give it a shot. I just want to know that this game isn't going to be a "pay to win" type of game where you can just automatically buy in game items with real currency to make you better and own everyone.
It's skins and such, brother. The game will have state-equivalent items that can be found ingame. They'll look different, but make the poor sod in front of you just as dead as before. Don't wanna buy anything -- Not necessary. Kick up 40 bucks and enjoy yourself. You won't be missing out on much of anything. You'll just be paying for some Bling O' War.
The devs have been adamant about avoiding pay to win stuff. The stuff you purchase will either be side-grades or cosmetic. So a gun won't do more damage while retaining the same range. It would have more damage and less range etc. And I'm about 80% sure they're going to implement a way to earn in game currency through game play.
Good, I'm glad. And this game is supposed to release later this year? I'm skeptical of that, seeing as they haven't even shown previews of Orks or Eldar... I dunno. I also wonder about this game's life cycle. I liked Space Marine's multiplayer, but eventually everyone stopped playing. I don't want that to happen for this game.
There's no set release as far as I know. I think the devs would rather get it done well a little late instead of rush things and make a bad game. I think this game has a lot of room for growth so it should have a good lifespan.
We just recently got confirmations that every item microtransaction will be cosmetic. There was some hard fought forum battling to make it happen, but it happened so you can count on no pay to win at this point. Just extra pauldrons, tassles and teef. You may only gain an advantage by dazzling the enemy with your fabulousness. However, note that pre-orders may get you early beta access, among other privileges, so it's not all cosmetic bonuses. But nothing as far as in-game advantage goes.
