"Because I am tense." Promethus cleared, not a smile striking his face, as he was indeed serious. "It feels... Awkward, almost wrong. To be here." He sighed not, but turned away to look into the distance.

"We are not part of any body of the Imperium, not anymore. We are almost like Lone Wolves. Yes, we are Adeptus Astartes - before you preach me that. But we are not among our gene-seed brothers. Neither are we a special unit, like the Deathwatch. Bonded through the Inquisition of Terra... So what are we? Astartes with companions, learning how to have compassion, to understand we are not the ultimate force in the galaxy. It goes against all we have learned so far, and yet for some reason our chapter masters have bestowed that... Duty upon us." The Ultramarine shifted slightly, feeling clearly not all too well to expose his mind to a non-chaplain, to expose himself like this. But that was the point, to share with his Brother, to attempt to build up that bond he had cut from Ultramar anew with others.

"I wonder... If we succeed, what then? We will force others into this way, the way of the tamer, an outcast of their chapter, to train under our Tamer-Master. Should I ever return to Macragge, I know that there will no glory be gained for me, one thing I aspired ever since having laid my eyes upon Cato Sicarius and the influence, the radiation of bravery, courage and honor he instilled in each and everyone around him." He smiled, not out of happiness, perhaps from realizing the irony that he lacked exactly those things right this moment. That zealous and determined courage the Ultramarines were known for.

"You and I come from very different chapters indeed..." mused Cacasus as he tried to digest the words his squadmate had confided. A Dark Angel and an Ultramarine had completely different conceptions of what duty meant for an Astartes, to say nothing of glory. "Does your present lack of... an official structure to serve bother you so much? Or are you apprehensive about the future?"
He shooed Diolux to the side for a moment, trying to refocus his thoughts again. "You mentioned Duty. Our duty. If our purpose here is nothing more than to bring the Emperor's light into the darkness, is that not duty enough?... You seem to... fear the failure to achieve glory. If you serve your duty to the Emperor, could they truly deny the glory you've earned?
"I think I'm not... saying this correctly. The line about compassion confuses me too. We are Astartes, we are human and yet we are not. We have what makes us human and yet we train ignore it when we must..."

"It is not the structure, the codex is a guideline, not a rulebook." The Ultramarine snarled, believing to be offended as many other chapters, such as the Minotaurs, insult them occasionally. "The lack of authorization, of a proper place in the Imperium - that is what bothers me. What are we exactly here? An Experiment? Guardians? Soldiers? And what will be of the future generations of Tamers? Will they also just live here, on this world?" He shook his head, only finding more questions than answers.

"Our duty is to the Emperor, the Imperium and our chapter. That is why we saved the villagers, that is why only children of the former legions are here. We do not only serve the Emperor, but his entire realm, and his direct descendants - our primarchs. You are too focused on your faith, like a Chaplain, failing to see that our duty is nothing but to exterminate any foe of the Imperium. We are Angels of Death. But the Emperor is the pillar of the Imperium, the protector of those that trust their lives into him, the deliverer of justice and the last stand against the influence of the warp." Promethus did not so much dictate his belief and tried to convince Cacasus, much more he tried to give him his own truth, his beliefs.

"We have removed a lot of what makes us human. For example fear. We do not fear the traitor, nor the alien or mutant. We know exactly what to do, to grant no mercy and kill them on the spot. Whereas other humans might be uncertain of how or why, we know why. Because we are the Angels of Death, bred to kill. Even our healers, the Apothecaries - even they kill while they keep us alive to continue combat." The Ultramarine rubbed his gloved hands over the railing of the balcony. It was good to get all this off his chest.

Unfortunately, there was no information to be gleaned from cross-referencing the DNA, especially as nothing about the Terrasque was known.

    < @Grimdestiny >

Unfortunately again, it seemed that the majority of material goods and personnel had not arrived yet, as there was a distinct lack of a Techmarine, and serfs anywhere. In addition, the armory seemed to only hold basic clips for bolters, some grenades, and some missiles for Prometheus.

[ Just a reminder that @Casavay is taking care of the wounded animals, and is open for interaction! She is not just there for flavour! ]

The accusations of being like his chaplains shook Cacasus. And that realization troubled him; why did it disturb him to be accused of being too MUCH like his chaplains? The defenders of the faith of the Dark Angels, the keepers of the rituals and the armorers of his soul. Should such a comparison not feel like an honor?

"Worry not, I understand the need to defend the humanity from whence we came. While you and Varrick tried to engage the Tarrasque, I felt my talents more beneficial to keeping the peace within the crowd of villagers...

"I am sorry if I offended you. And I worry this next question will do the same: is your apprehension about the future?"

"Apprehension?" Promethus laughed as he repeated the question. "The future is always uncertain, and the moments of uncertainty and despair is when we can be the bravest!" The Ultramarine shrugged eventually, making it clear that 'Courage and Honour' was more than just a saying in the realm of Ultramar.

"It takes much more than that to offend me, and I feel it is futile to save single humans, if it makes no overall effect. Call me fatalistic, insane, or whatever you want. But your thinking there was Salamander thinking, Josun must rub off on you, a lot. I saw it like fighting Tyranids. The sooner you fell them, the smaller the casualties will be, and the longer you keep the foe alive, more will die. We all act just from our individual experiences, without an organized movement. We are not the slightest cohesive yet. We fight as individuals with our beast-partners. But not as a squad." Promethus eventually concluded, turning to Cacasus.

The Dark Angel finally smiled. "I almost wished you'd said yes. Then I could act like a teacher, and say that uncertainty about the future was the most human trait of all." He clapped a hand on the Ultramarine's shoulder, standing at the balcony's rail alongside his squadmate. "Thank you, son of Macragge. This talk has... I needed this little talk. You're right, we don't fight as a squad yet. But then, why would we? We have only known OF each other until now. We did not yet KNOW each other. But this chat, that's a step in the right direction. I think I'm seeing how Josun's lesson was supposed to conclude now, what the cycle of nature and the bond with our beast actually means for US."

Varrick sighed Finding nothing, He felt he had gained no progress through the basics he stored the remaining sample into Cold storage for later examinations by others., As he then looked back to Nix already had gotten through one of her scrap balls and was working on another Almost picking through to get to the center. He needed to find out more about the lesson.

No he would likely look out a bit on the sanctuary with Nix, Likely better then Training since Her exoskeleton was still healing. he collected the scraps from her first ball and put it on his in the Scrap pile and then called Nix over. "Come I think its time We reflect a bit." Varrick said As he and wen't out into a outside Sanctuary,

He looked out on it all Thinking upon what Prometheus and The head Tamer said. He was probably one of the lowest within the Beast tamers, Couldn't put the The lesson together and narrow minded. he thought to himself he would likely punish himself for it later. He was likely the most out of tune as well as he took a glance at his Iron hands.

"It aids me too, my brother." He placed his hand on top of the one that Cacasus put on his shoulder, smiling in reply. "You know what we should do? We should gather our companions and fellow brothers and do some wilderness camping. Really spend some time together, learn about one anothers past, expectations of being a beastmaster, philosophize about Josun and his ways, and of course see that our companions learn to trust one another and can rely upon one each other, just like we Astartes can rely on one another. What do you think of that?"

"I think brother Varrick has much the same idea" he said and pointed down to the Iron Hand with his scorpion following behind. "I just hope he checked with Zafira that Nix is allowed outside in her state."
