Give me these. This is my desktop, so I see it a lot, and I know what I like. The segmented chitin is an important feature, as is the bulbous heads that come towards the back. Where there isn't armor plating there's spikes, and where there's neither is purely to keep them streamlined so they look like quick little fuckers. No lips because they don't need any, it better displays the teeth. And on the bigguns everything that's not armor plated looks like corded muscle, or something like the tail on the carnifex that needs to move quickly. The chitin can be seen to be thick and everything on it looks like it has a function. Whether it be self defense or kill potential, there is no wasted space. Not saying that this isn't close to what they're planning, just how I see the 'nids personally. I understand that that was the barest of bones of a 3d model. Though I tend to agree with Djemo, more needle teeth, less the shark teeth that the model is showing.
I love the 5th edition codex for its art on the cover! You can see the large hulking creatures contrasted by the scurrying gaunts underfoot. Another detail in it that I like are the little simbiotes attatched to them.
What kind of animals do tyranids even classify as? Most people count them as bugs, but it seems like they are reptiles, arachnids, crustaceans and a bunc of other wierd things to... DO THEY EVEN CLASSIFY AS ANIMALS?!
idk, you could say the same thing about the zerg, the aliens from the alien movies, the flood from halo, etc.
Well I count the flood as a parasite. I dont count the bodies they host as the actual flood though...
The nids and zerg don't really fall into any one category as they are collections of many different species. Both use the genetic material of other races to create new versions of them selves. If you really wanted to classify them you would have to go through each version such as zergling or gaunt and classify each individually. Even then you still have the issue with the nids at least the the gaunts of one hive may not be designed the same as those of a different hive.
Nids are not animals per see they are bio engineered weapons each with one purpose mixed from milions of years accumulated DNA [or whatever else] infromation from all consumed worlds War with Chtorr series is based on similar basis where alien invasion begin with just bacterial spores and "trees" which terraform earth unseen before its too late to stop them slowly changing whole earth ecology and introducing new and escalatingly more dangerous "animals" to exterminate all native population [and even forming "cults" by some kind of mind controll] leaving terraformed earth for new inhabitants to just claim for themselves [all begins with spores hiting earth just like Nids modus operandy] Well now that I written that its wery similar to Orcs invasions, but orcs were also engineered so that [well than maybe even tyranids started as bio weapon project gone rogue, thats for RP players to use imagination on]
