Concern: Getting The Close Combat Right.

  1. They did? That's a good sign.
  2. As long as the system encourages melee within say, 25 meters, and it's fast and brutal, I'll be happy
  3. I see what you'all are saying and I wish I could jump on your wagon. But, I also see that your arguments are not considering the vastly different types of RANGED weapon mechanics that we are dealing with. We are dealing with more EFFICIENT ranged weapons than the ones that exist in any of the superb melee games you are referencing. The ONLY game that has any reference as far as melee versus ranged that we can expect is Space Marine (unfortunately). As we all know... it depends on the LAG GODS as far as who will come out on top when dealing with experienced players in that game. With dedicated servers it will be mitigated to a point but there will still be server lag and slight rewind. But, with rolling, dash dodging, and stun with serrated blade a Tac always comes out on top if he knows what he's doing. And this is in a game that's supposed to balance that... THERE WILL NOT BE ROOM FOR COMPLEX MELEE without some sort of melee lock down system. By that I mean that the individuals would have to locked together for the melee class to have a chance. I don't see this being a good system though. Freedom of movement will outweigh the importance of the issue. It's a pipe dream that cannot be achieved without a LAN. Unfortunately, we will have to be happy with a simple system that allows melee players to quickly eliminate ranged classes for the sake of balance and survivability. Not the answer you want. But it's the ONLY answer if you realistically look at with the perspective of technology constraints.

I would like to see a system similar to mount and blade or war of the Roses when you have 4 attack directions and 4 defence directions, in my opinion it would add that feeling of easy to learn but hard to master seeing how a newcomer would just swing his sword and hope hot the best but a more skilled player would just block the swings, which would make the newcomer want to get better in the fighting system, not to mention that a 1v1 duel between 2 skilled players could take a significant time and not just be a who swings first and who is more lucky contest

Partisan highlightened an important thing in this discussion: You can't consider melee separately without considering shooting combat coz in EC these things will overlap all the time. Thus melee MUST be quick and more deadly than shooting otherwise no HtH combat specialist will be able to finish any engagement. The shooters won't wait untill melee specialists finish their difficult and sophisticated techniques.

Well firs of all let's make the distinction between two core elements of the game. The close combat and the ranged combat, both should work good with out the other, if you are fighting on the field of battle you can not expect people to ignore you because you are in close combat and not shoot you, more so if you are more comfortable with a ranged weapon you can not expect that you would not be touched by a bacerker rushing your ranks with an axe/sword. Which means both systems should be individually made to the best way(you can not make a slope close combat system because you have a ranged system to back it up). That is why I think some of your points are irrelevant

Maan, you are contradicting yourself! Read your post and several previous ones again and think twice.

Am I to understand that a "quick" close combat system is the lucky hack and slash combat, because in my opinion this system (seen in "space marine") allows for no extra skill (just two people mashing the first or mouse battens) and could not be Co sidereal a" good", system

You can have THIS system and a chance of surviving in the battlefield as a melee class or a sophisticated one making you a cannon fodder, choice is yours.

    It
was not contradiction (maybe a misplace of words), my point was that both the close and range combat should be looked at a individuals and must be perfected with out the construction of each other
