Perhaps there could be different dodges for each race/class to better reflect how mobile the players character is. (Mass Effect 3 multiplayer anyone?)

Dunno why people freak out about this, space marines can roll with power armour, space marines can jump with power armour (they literally leap to fight at melee). You don't want it because aesthetically looks bad? that's a valid point, you want to avoid having people constantly rolling/jumping aside or whatever? that's certainly something the devs need to look into, but SM are way more agile than they should.

  3. ME3 had very good dodging mechanics. I liked the way each race had a unique dodge. I would think of reserving dodging to eldar to increase their survivability in combat because it makes sense for eldar to be dodging and leaping around instead of just taking the hits like space marines

I'm voting that every race has huge penalties for making a dodge, the disorientation of rolling makes your co-ordination go to hell for a few important seconds after every roll unless you're trained, like a gymnast, to keep on rolling.

In regards to dodging and rolling I think there should be a large cool-down between dodges and definitely a tactical choice, where a dodge will move you far, really fast but your net speed suffers greatly as you have recover from that first initial surge of speed as you sacrificed co-ordination just to get the hell away from something like a grenade.

As for space marines specifically I see no problems with them rolling out the way but probably best if they leap instead of rolling.

As I said befor, make sprint, jump and/or roll based on an endurance-bar. Each time you use one of these movementabilities, you lose some points. So you can't "steamroll" or "bunnyhop" all the time. It works great in most games, why shouldn't it work for EC?

About aesthetics, each race should have a specific animation for it. An Eldar would roll different than a Spacemarine or an Ork. Maybe SM and CSM can share some animation due the armor ...

Talking about the gamemechanic; Eldar are know to be high mobile and maybe they can dodge more often or sprint faster / longer than SM, CSM or Orks. But taking away the base-abilities to sprint, jump or dodge from certain race would be a massive gamedesign-flaw, at least in my humble opinion.

My only concern with players rolling around is lag and hitbox detection.
If it works fine I'm up for it.

We should have a stamina system for rolling. And a weapon ready timer that changes according to the ype of gun being used., so people arent capable of shooting instantly after rolling.

When i created this pool,i meant in a "balance" way.Im pretty aware Space Marines have a great deal of mobility despite/thanks to their armour.I would hate to see this game become roll based(not dice).
    The endurance/stamina/etc idea seems fine.

I am ok with the mechanic of dodging, and I understand their armor augments their power but its still just something I can't get over imagining.

I mean these guys (Space Marines) paint their armor in bright colors, and think cover is for the weak, they are walking tanks, all the descriptions about them are hard to kill, powerful, etc...but yet they roll around lol.

Its just something that is jarring to my mind's eye image of them, thought the same in the Space Marine game but I understand the need for it in a video game.

Perhaps a race appropriate dodge animation would be more palatable.
    • Eldar can dive and roll (more fluid, and faster than the other races movements)
    • CSM/SM can have a sidestep and backstep leap like animations
    • Orks could have either a less graceful looking gorilla-esque roll, or a juke like movement (less "heroic" and more barbaric looking than CSM/SM)

Really though its on the bottom of my list of concerns, just something that is fairly superficial but still nagging at the back of my mind for large armored superhumans lol.

Space marines actually use cover just like everyone else. The ignoring cover thing is more of a joke, really.

No, its called power armor for a reason it is neurally linked with the space marine for it to function as second skin and push an Astarte's already formidable physique even further.
