Have seen so many suck up posts... but this one tops it all.
I like how everything is community community community.

"Wrong, its a solid-middle, F2P by necessity game made by a studio who had never tackled a project this big, undercut by corporate on manpower and revenue, but with a team with a lot of respect for the IP handed a steep climb and handed track shoes instead of hiking boots."

The people coming into this game arent first time game developers. They came from Eve Online...Defiance , to name a few. So planning around the holy trinity of time/resource/manpower was always a challenge from the start that the team was aware of. Hindsight is 20-20 and they may have hinted they bit more than they can chew. So you dont really have a point here.

"If you can do better, then do better. If you can't do better but you can help, then help. If you can't do better and you can't help, then figure out the level of your involvement that helps the community and do that. Being Chicken Little doesn't help the community, especially since if all you're going to do is trash the game I'm really not inclined to follow you to whatever community you ARE pitching in the future. This is really a 'lead, follow, or get out of the way' scenario."
    1. Not your place to tell others what to do.
    2. People paid for the IP/Prospect of 40k ...they dint pay to volunteer to be good samaritans. HELPING THE COMMUNITY may give you a huge boner...not so for others... so simply put NO.
    3. Repeat after me...you DONT GET TO DECIDE what/how others should do/behave.

"Better a White Knight who logs in and enjoys the game than a troll who comes here to tear down those enjoying the game and contributing to the community. One builds up; the other tears down. You won't get me to stop playing, convince me the fun I'm having is wrong, or that the work I'm doing has no value or meaning, particularly in light or the positive feedback I *DO* get from the rest of the community."

Whatever makes you validate your own existence man. Trolls are a part of any community and more often than not they were individuals who once had hope for this game and possibly ended up being jaded about it. ECs biggest issue from a sales perspective is customer retention...which for EC is pretty bad (as per the devs themselves) . No one tried to convince you to play/stop or poop... same way stop trying to tell them how to behave as a community. No one gives a shit if you white knight or not... just dont rub your dong on everyones face and expect them to follow suit. Your entire post is just that.

People who have salted about ec are merely just most loyal 40k fans who feel dissapointed about how the game they wanted didnt meet their expectations...they are well within their right to feel angry/mad/frustrated and salty.
"HOWEVER, given that 40k gamers are genetically incapable of being happy"... given by who ? You ?
There have been instances of 40k games that have been well liked and received..so proof by contradiction there. You are wrong. 40k gamers rather look for a decent amount of quality and content in their games... sorry that they have standards.

Not trying to make you feel bad...just pointing out you kinda are.

I don't understand how they're excused because they've never made a game on the scale that they were aiming for, it's the ultimate downfall that soaked up millions in funding, and the higher ups would be whipped by pouring even more money into the project given it would take such a long time to see a return. They were given a steep climb and they thought they had hiking boots on for a while, then they realized they were wearing flipflops once they were more than a third of the way.

It's likely they didn't have the funds to scrap it and start again. Also, let's not forget some self-imposed costs, like going with motion capture for the animating technique meaning the cost is driven up exponentially. They're not completely innocent devs falling on hard times. They bit off way more than they could chew given their budget and team and couldn't restart the project before running out of money. Pre-Nathan mismanagement plays a major role in why EC flopped.

Agree with everything but one bit, that being with regards to funding. I severely doubt what's left of the community (500 players average?) can generate millions in revenue per year in order to fund a full team of say, 30, which is similar to the original dev team size. Nathan said that an animation team alone is what, a million a year at least?

I didn't want to get involved in weird white knight forum politics, but one apologizes for the devs irrespective of the situation, and a troll feeds off the anguish of someone (not someone who criticizes the game or dev team). There are of course tasteful and mature ways to go about comment and critique.

I believe what Katzu is trying to say and what you people dont seem to get, probably this post wont change that, is that 'not liking the game' is self induced.
    In other words:
-You are unhappy with the way the game is and thats why you complain on the forums.
-You complain on the forums and thats because you are unhappy with the way the game is.
    Both statements are true.
The more time you spend complaining about what you dont like, even thinking about it, the less you will like it and the more significance it will get for you, the more it will overshadow the aspects you do enjoy.
And, you are correct, noone can just come in and tell you to stop ruining your own fun, thats your business.
However the fact of the matter is that you create a maelstrom of negativity that sucks everyone in who gets close to it, traditionally people come to the forums to debate or because they have a suggestion, but what they find are only salt and tears.
So yes, by consistently complaining you are not just venting your own anger, but you are directly contributing towards the bad experience other people have as well, and maybe you should just ask yourselves, if that should really be your end goal.
There is nothing wrong with complaining, but the negativity expressed by many on these forums is viral and it literally has an impact of the quality of the experience the rest of us have, who wouldnt normally give a shit about certain issues.
The entire 'Eldar OP' meme is a pretty good example.
This meme would literally not exist if a few people didnt keep bringing it up, even sarcastically. The only reason why this meme exists is because people didnt stop using it when Eldar got nerfed.
And yes, it also has a direct impact on the gameplay: if a new player gets into the game and they are fed this meme, they will use it as an excuse for why they fail to fight Eldar, rather than taking it upon themselves to improve and adapt.
And no, noone can be forced to contribute and help the game, but you could show the basic decency of not being destructive and counter-productive to the efforts of those, who do.

Now, on topic: For everyone who thinks a few dedicated Warhammer fans cant save a game, I dare you to look up 'The Ninth Age'. When GW killed WHF, this fully substituted for it at my local TT-club, which I believe is the biggest in the country.

Gaming novadays is not really about the games. You think any of the major, iconic titles got to where they are just by being that awesome? It has always been a community effort, sometimes good marketing played its part, but in the end its up to the players to not only keep a game alive, but turn it into something much greater than the devs ever anticipated.
Gaming stopped being a hobby for nerds in a basement precisely when it became primarely a social event.
You dont just play a game, the main fun is about the interaction with other people. Even for singleplayer games what matters is not the gameplay or the story, but the shared experience of it you can talk to to your friends, watching streamers or youtubers playing it and comparing them to yourself.
In the end, the people who play it are more important than the product itself.
For instance what never fails to draw people in, what we completely seem to lack is a competitve scene.
Where are our tournaments, our elitist guilds, our godlike-streamers, our calculator-websites?
How comes nobody ever talks about builds, about meta, about team composition?
To be fair there is a distinct lack of tools provided game-side, but that has never stopped anyone before, so what is it?
