With potentially hundreds or thousands of people on a given side in the conflicts of Eternal Crusade, will there be some sort of way that individuals can earn some sort of marker of experience and leadership to help facilitating getting all these people to co-ordinate their efforts? I'm expecting something vaguely similar to the Commander tags in Guild Wars 2, but those were just outright currency purchases. Might there be some sort of requirements to unlock a map icon? Or perhaps to take this a step further, difficult but unlockable classes that distinguish leaders, such as Farseers for the Eldar, a Warboss for Orks, Chaos Lord etc. Considering that the largest part of Eternal Crusade appears to be this huge-scale battling, I'm really interested to see what's lined up to enable player-based command structures.
I'd imagine Strike Forces would just use Skype or something to chat between themselves. As for the larger picture, it's already been mentioned that players will be able to be 'elevated by their peers' to command positions. I don't know where it would go from there but I'd imagine it'd be those players that do the coordinating.
the game will feature an elective command chain, 10 man squad choose squad leader. 10 squad chose strike force leader. strike forces choose war council leader. this leaders can create mission and give order and manage the tactics of the entire faction.
For the most part it's a great system but I wonder if there is going to be a command in game voice system so squad strike and council leaders can communicate
they said in the latest interview that they're exploring in-game voip right now. I think it's basically a given, they're just trying to figure out whether to go 3rd party or built-in.
The problem with that is unpopular people won't be picked and friends will be picked. Honestly I think that method can be effective but... It is possible that really skilled players could be given really low positions because they aren't 'loud' about it.
I don't think it favors anyone other than the folks who know what they're doing. I for one will be in strike forces with my outfit, but if I weren't I'd vote for the best leader with the most proven ability in combat.
