nah, orkz skin arennt at all resistant to bolters. they have skin a little tougher than elephant hide--a bolt could tear through that like paper. then explode inside of it.
bolts are stronger than any shooter, slugga, or big shoota in terms of stopping power. waay stronger. its firing a MINIATURE SELF PROPELED ROCKET. and bolts are the size of those little miniature soda cans. thats some big fucking ammunition.
also--your saying you have skin as strong as space marine armor--one of the only things that have any hope of stopping a bolt that is wearable by infantry (without becoming a walker). a quote from the 3rd ed codex is that "bolts can even destroy small vehicles in a handful of shots, and larger ones given enough time and correctly placed shots" If a space marine shot a twin linked lascannon on a dreadnought, that dreadnought would be dead with 1-5 shots, as each one explodes, and if the first few dont get inside, one of them will break through, causing the lascannon to explode. same goes with a plasma cannon. IMO, the lore itself for bolters is kind of OP...they could kill any bike in from any race in about 3 shots...a landspeeder in about 5 shots--thats if they dont hit the engine or the plasma cannon/multi melta.
I generally agree with you, but on this, no. Remember a little conflict in Viet Nam? We (the U.S. and a couple other countries) brought all the dakka you can imagine, and we didn't win. Afghanistan, same thing we have switched from Dakka, to heart and minds (not PC I know but for ease of argument). No, warfare is not about who has the most dakka. Warfare is and always will be about: who can think the best. You win with your mind before you ever step foot on the battle field, or you will lose. There is a measure of luck involved, but having the most guns only means you have the most guns. Being the best at employing (read, not just shooting) those guns means you will win. The rest of your post is spot on, imo.
In the real world, yes, I agree. This is not the real world. This is the 41st Millenium. Planet turns from the Imperium? Curbstomped by the millions upon millions of Imperial Guard that will invade it. Planet looks like it's going to be lost? Exterminatus. Surrender or Death? Double helping of Death, please. Orks? WAAAGH! Eldar? Hit and run tactics with highly advanced weaponary and a culture where even civilians are trained killers by outright necessity. Chaos? Nuff said. This is the 41st Millenium. There is Only War.
real world or not, if you go in thinking your just gonna spray some bullets around and win, you are dead wrong. 2nd point. We were speaking to the real world. 3rd. I play a shit ton of shooter games. We call people that play like you; free XP.
Wow, kneejerk reaction much? I play a lot of shooters as well, or did before they all started becoming one homogenous mass that started adding too much bullshit and not enough substance (i.e. every CoD game after Modern Warfare 1, Halo 4 < Halo Reach, etc) You were talking about 'Heart and Mind' tactics, in a thread/forum about 40k. What was I supposed to take from that?
What you should have taken from it was that were talking about/addressing points not pertaining to what the OP is about. So I hope that clears that up. Knee jerk reaction...not sure that is the phrase you want to use here, but I have no immediate uninformed reaction to anything. Based off what you said, the run in guns blazing, screaming FTW is the way to go. And it isn't. Not that I am trying to change your mind, not at all you keep doing your thing, I will keep doing mine, and enjoying the easy XP. Basically more guns does not ensure victory is the point I was trying to make. You and I really had nothing to talk about...and still don't on this topic, you are talking about 40K only, and I am speaking to WH40k, shooters in general and real life. The former 2 only because you can't seem to let this conversation go. Which brings me to my final point. Instead of hijacking this thread any further, if you feel I need to better illuminate any of my points, please PM me so these good people can get back to their conversation, sans our BS. Cheers.
