Cloth Physics?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Zaphkiel_ElRaziel, Jan 12, 2014.

  1. The thing that REALLY bugs me in games that have epic robes, hoods, cloaks, tabards, coats, etc. don't have needed physics. Take skyrim for example. The only piece of wearable cloth that actually has some amount of cape physics comes from a mod. Same goes for Dark Angels DLC in Retribution. The robes looks GREAT, yet they moved with the legs. The cloth itself was static. Not even the Force Commander's cape had physics. It was mostly animated.

The coolest part of having a robe or a trench coat or a hood is to have it flowing with the wind and interacting with your movements. That's why it looks so cool, it's intimidating that way. But when it's static, it just looks silly, and can have some clipping issues.

I would personally REALLY love to see this done, as it's not really done in many games, and it has only ever been done in ONE 40k game, which happens to be Space Marine. And yet, SM was COMPLETELY void of robes and hoods. Just.... tabards and loin cloth.

If this can be done when we Dark Angels get our robes, I would be the happiest Astartes around. If it's not possible, I'll manage to live without it, but it's just one of those little things that's worth "geeking out" over.

  2. Even though I'm of the Vlyka Fenryka, I would love animated garb, Our pelts should flow.

  3. I don't personally mind either way.

But yes, cloth physics would always be nice.

Some moving capes and robes would be cool, but I wouldn't hold my breath and expect anything high-end in terms of physics.

Hear hear for flowing capes, even if wont be wearing any. Always struck me as odd when i saw stiff cloth items.

  6. Dark Souls II looks 4x better than it's predecessor with cloth physics. Add it in, I say!

Animated cloth, sure. Cloth physics that animate itself on the fly and react to the world? No, I can live without that. It would probably be far too resource intensive

  8. Of course, yea. It doesn't have to be that extensive. But I would like to see the physics interact with the character who wears it, and, at the very least, knows how to react to things like crouching, sprinting, and using a jumppack/riding an attack bike.

You have to admit though, it would be cool if the cloth would react to heavy wind and such. Would look dynamic and almost theatric. :p

It will be cooler if your clothes can get soaked on your blood when i kill you :D

Seriously, little details like that one makes games cooler, i hope for a great level of detail on max settins on pc.

It'll be awesome being a Dark Angel with a robe soaked in the blood of xenos and heretic scum floating. Emperor guide my blade!
