Chivalry's thrust attack made so much sense when I played today. I'd want the thrust/lunge attack to be the fencer style jab with the pointy end. This attack would finally bring some much needed variation to the melee weapon archetypes. It would simply skyrocket the melee combatants control over his weapon in confined spaces and alter the way dedicated melee units fought each other.
I'd be more focused on wondering how possible dual weild, spears and 2 handed weapons will fare(speed, range, possible aoe) then gimmicks like that. Melee combat in EC do not really need gimmicks like that, it needs current system to be working reliably and some tuning to JPA getting dodge jet on your back.
The thing that works is freeform movement. The rest doesn't really transition well. Changes that would work would be Dbash (if it was changed almost entirely), Heavy attack (as a held attack, more directional, less range, easier to use, harder to master), a defense mechanic (like blocking but not blocking, because GW is dumb). Also big issue, the game has to use a controller as well, that system wont really work on controller. Overall, the system wont work. Also there is so much that will need to be done for it to work and the game barely runs as it is. The only thing I want from it is the freeform movement, then the game mechanics just need a bit of altering to fit it.
Yup. Controllers. The consoles being so limited and what I was talking about when I said I didn't want this game to be released on any console.
I think the console release is pretty dumb too. But its a factor. Even if this was PC only, the system is a little too much for EC, there are ideas that could be transferred over, but the system shouldn't replace it entirely.
Kill auto target. I would like to see different attacks(even if they dont do anything) so swing left, right, diagonal, do a little spin attack. Clangs need to be less, they should be two weapons hitting, and the lesser weapon dude should take a step back or something. So different clang thing and more variety to melee attacks if posible. Also, can there be an execution after you kill the dude, before he lands on the ground, right after you kill him? So finally blow then you do a back stab that kills him. Same regular amount of time for executions but can be triggered right after a melee kill.
Lock-on will stay, either active or passive, it will never leave, period. Have you ever played Warframe, AC, Space Marine? Those games have auto target too, the reason for is that you would miss every of your attack due to the enemy stepping 1 foot to the side if there were no auto target. Well, Warframe has similar system, and let me remind you, its PvP is terrible.
Thats because its primarily a shooter and relies on looting and the eternal grinding. Not to mention how the movement works, all the jumping, wall running and flipping.
And EC is not a shooter? Those bolters look like guns to me. Anywho, were you the one who suggested that we should use M&B melee for EC not too long ago? It's actually last week if I remember correctly.
I just want someone to explain to me how an RPS system works effectively with multiple combatants ? If you are fighting more than one opponent the odds are incredibly high that you will either be clanged or staggered by one foe and then cut down by the other, making your attacks essentially useless having done zero damage to anything. You might as well just run away. I'm not sure that tactic will work very well against the Tyranids. How do you wade into a horde of blood thirsty Tyranids only to get "clanged" by one of them while the other 4 cut you to ribbons ? RPS system just falls apart with more than one opponent.
