Chasing People with a Storm Shield to see if the damage lives up to the hype

I can't speak for other SB players, but the only things I hated about the PC was getting oneshotted with no chance for counterplay. I never expected the shield to eat a charged shot, although I periodically tested it. If I guess wrong on when to roll, and eat the shot coming out of it, that's fair. It was the giant plasma blob landing on me from anywhere outside my field of view and just ending me that drove me nuts.

That's what pc plasma blobs should do, however sometimes they needed 2 to go down (before the nerf ofc) and sometimes when I was surprised and had to shoot point blank - I died and they survived.

Kindof like being backstabbed by a guy who you then can't damage because he's in your face with a shield, right?

Backstabbing requires careful positioning at close range, and can be averted by the expedient of having someone watching your back. In the case of PCs, the guy watching your back can't do anything to keep you from getting shot.

Display an impact warning for plasma like the lascannon has, then sure, let it oneshot.
I'm still not sure what math they use to calculate survival of point-blank plasma. It definitely favors the shooter most of the time, but not always.

Careful positioning? You're joking right? You just have to run up behind someone in your whisper-quiet suit of power armor when they're not looking in your direction.

    edit: typo

Walk up behind. If you run, you're a dorito, and they turn and shoot. Also, if they're moving at all, there's a better-than-even chance that the heavy attack will just miss- I think they've actually made its hitbox less forgiving, this patch.
And, as you point out, you have to get much, MUCH closer to get this kind of kill with a melee weapon.

On some maps, that's not hard. You're fighting against it, but melee OHKs are just as unpleasant as ranged OHKs.

People do seem to get much angrier about getting killed in melee than they do about getting shot. I think it's rooted in the real-world cognitive dissonance about a sword being viable in a gunfight.

yes basically that would be my order of damage application
    1. active forcefield ... mitigating a decent percentage of damage that strikes the raised shield (I did use ~66% to reflect the TT's 3+ invun)
    2. shield HP/AP ... active or inactive, damage that strikes the shield first
    3. character HP/AP ... active or inactive, damage that strikes the player first ... or damage that has first struck the shield and "broken" it
of course this still allows for the sheild to be bypassed entirely by some AOE's depending on the point of impact relative to the sheilds locations, as well as things like D-bash

the basic concept is that the shield protects the user even if its not active, but theres no "immunity" from damage ... merely increased resistance
